Steve Bruce And Alan Shearer Seek An Answer On Takeover

As the Premier League enters another week of its owners’ and directors’ tests, it seems as though Newcastle are forging ahead with business as usual as best as they can.

Yesterday, Steve Bruce confirmed initial reports that former youth product Mark Gillespie has signed to battle goalkeeper Karl Darlow for the number two spot. Last week, it was also announced that Andy Carroll had signed a one-year extension, and Javier Manquillo had inked a new 4-year deal.

Newcastle cannot afford to be idle in the hopes the takeover is approved, and the new influx of cash will cover them being behind in their summer business. If it’s not approved, then the club could be in serious trouble going into next year.

So we’ve seen them make a few deals to keep things moving along, albeit at a tentative pace.

Steve Bruce was asked about the uncertainty surrounding Newcastle’s future after the FA Cup defeat last night. This is what he had to say as written in the Northern Echo:

“I think everybody needs a bit of clarity. I’m led to believe it is the Premier League that is stalling all of these negotiations, and if that is the case, they need to come and make a decision sooner rather than later. It’s not healthy for anybody.

“For me personally now, though, we’ve got another game on Wednesday (at Bournemouth), and we’ve given ourselves a wonderful opportunity. We can’t use what’s going on as an excuse, but we need a bit of clarity and for it to be put to bed one way or another.”

These are uncertain times for all Premier League clubs, and football clubs worldwide. But for Newcastle, the uncertainty is heightened with this takeover in limbo. There had been some hope that the Premier League was waiting for the WTO to publish their findings on Saudi piracy before making a decision.

It’s now been weeks since that report was issued and we’re still none the wiser as to what the outcome will be. Meanwhile, the Saudis have taken steps to atone for their complicity in broadcast piracy.

Maybe the league is using the takeover to get them to do even more than they’ve already done. Who knows. But whatever the reasoning, it’s putting Newcastle at a distinct disadvantage.

If this lingers much longer with the takeover ultimately blocked, that could have a devastating effect on Newcastle next season. They’ll be behind in their preparation and still have derelict owner Mike Ashley at the helm.

Alan Shearer also spoke about the lumbering takeover yesterday. He shares Bruce’s sentiment that something must happen sooner rather than later, or Newcastle could be left in the lurch.

“Something has to happen – good news or bad news – because Newcastle are in limbo, they can’t plan for next season. I think I would like to see it happen. It’s been going on for such a long time, they need an answer.”

Thirty years of hurt – are you taking the piss?

    https://theathletic.com/1898631/2020/06/29/newcastle-united-fa-cup-george-caulkin/

Thirty years of hurt — are you having a laugh? Thirty years — are you taking the piss? Thirty? Try doubling that. Triple it. Try more. If you want to know the meaning of yearning, of craving, of a great, restless northern club wrestling with its own lack of silverware, try Newcastle United where, after this minuscule excuse for a big occasion, another season will peter out on wasteland. Where dreams go to wither.

It confounds all logic but Newcastle stand ninth on the list of most successful English football clubs in terms of competitive honours. Ninth: behind Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Aston Villa and Everton. It makes you realise that to be so bad for this long, there must have been a time when they were truly great, an era so distant that even ghosts have forgotten it.

I’m talking about football right now. I talked about it the whole way through the match last night, and for the whole night.

Whereas you just seem to have come here to insult me.

If you want to talk football, I’ll talk football with you mate. That is what I was trying to do here before you interrupted. Ibwas discussing the owners, which is the most important topic for the future of our club right now.

When Bob Moncur lifted the Fairs Cup for Newcastle in 1969, Liverpool had won zero European trophies of any sort. They had won a single FA Cup to Newcastle’s six. Newcastle’s final triumph at Wembley, in 1955, was their third in four years, by which point, Liverpool had not claimed any.

And what is this agonising three decades of Liverpool’s anyway? What does it mean, apart from two Champions Leagues, one UEFA Cup, three European Super Cups, one Club World Cup, three FA Cups, four League Cups, and three Community Shields, if we’re counting those.

In May 1927, when Newcastle won the last of their four league titles, Charles Lindbergh piloted the first solo, nonstop flight across the Atlantic. As a club, our wings have been clipped. We have lost the ability to soar.

Precisely. One of the best we’ve had at the club in years and he gets the chop because he has ambitions of success, not just turning a profit.

Youve been arguing with people with an agenda
Once you see it its obvious

I love it when they try and argue as you can then use them to further the agenda of showing people just how much hes mugged us all off over the years
    Lied to
    Robbed
    Mugged off
    Insulted

Its a canny list he loves adding too

If it makes you feel better mate, I’ll concede the point on that £30m a year. It definitely was a footnote, though. My point was that we do not invest at all and the club is run primarily as a business, for a profit. Precisely how big that profit is is largely irrelevant.

Do you really want to play the “wriggly worm” and “liar” cards though after you got so comprehensively ripped apart for your lies on here lately? People in glass houses mate…

He seems to want the club to be ambitious and thinks there seems to be a chronic lack of investment
Questioning where might have the money went

You seem to dislike the very notion of mistrusting the turd
    Might you explain ?

Don’t worry mate I know they have an agenda. That’s mostly why I’m challenging them, so those who haven’t realised can see the other side of the argument.
