Bruce Gives Update On Squad’s Fitness During Press Conference For Bournemouth

Steve Bruce has given his press conference this morning for tomorrow’s trip to face Bournemouth. A result will have Newcastle reach the 40 point total for the season. But they’ll face a desperate side in the Cherries, who are mired in 18th place at the moment.

With this being Newcastle’s fourth game in just 11 days, Bruce says he’ll rotate the squad and could bring in some players who have yet to feature since the league resumed.

Players who have yet to play who have been available include Emil Krafth, Yoshinori Muto, and Christian Atsu, who hasn’t been named in a matchday squad since the return.

Bruce pulled some of his stars in latter stages of the FA Cup quarterfinal. Hopefully, the likes of Allan Saint-Maximin and Miguel Almiron will be able to go tomorrow. Though 4 starts in 11 days is a risk.

The head coach spoke about Saint-Maximin and also confirmed there were no new injuries to report. However, Matt Ritchie is still not right after being taken off against Aston Villa.

Here’s Chris Waugh’s tweet on injuries and the fitness of the squad.

Steve Bruce also shed some light on the situation with Florian Lejeune, who was injured in the friendly against Hull. Unfortunately, the Frenchman may not be able to return this season.

All in all, the injury situation isn’t too bad. The Lonstaffs returned against Manchester City, so it looks like just Ritchie will be a question mark for tomorrow with Lejeune and Ciaran Clark being unavailable.

Just a quick answer for those querying the SNP guy’s motives: back in 2013, Scotland got into a cosy “relationship” with Qatar, which involved the usual money for favours etc. It included Qatar celebrating an annual “Scotland Day” in which lots of young Qatari girls are dressed up kilts etc.

This came under a lot of flak in 2017, when Qatar were being accused of protecting Islamic terrorists, but I’m not sure if the “arrangement” ever really ended.

I think that says it all, Qatar have pulled in every available, political favour they could muster to try and stop this, and they are still going to fail haha haha

…Interestig Clevelyes, thnaks for digging that up

Sifting through the comments, and filtering out the he said, she said, you said, I said bickering,
I spotted something about starting out v Bournemouth on the front foot. I totally agree with that. Sundays first half abyss of abysmalism can’t be repeated. We need to get a couple of goals and get into an attacking rhythm. If we win I reckon that’s us safe.

Mark. We may as well go balls to the wall in all our remaining games. Blood some youngsters too. We go all out attack and we will get at least one win or a couple of draws from the remaining games and that’s more than enough.

    You’re welcome Munster.

Here’s another gem for the collective minds to ponder:

If there’s 72 teams in the EFL and we are now going to “ensure” that 6 BAME candidates are guaranteed a job every year. Does that mean in 12 years time there’ll be no white coaches in EFL, in a Country that’s still 85% White?? – Seems a bit beyond necessary to me 😉

KV, i dont agree with a lot of what you say here and do find it a tiny bit provocative about not believing that any attempted takeover is taking place, so I wudnt claim to be best mates with you or eye to eye on this stuff with you.

And you are definitely argumentative. But Im no shrinking violet myself so absolutely no hard feelings.

Ive extended an olive branch to two or three complete tools on here and they have been rejected, but have also buried the hatchet with guys like Rotonda, more or less 🙂 , so it would be hypocritical to refuse yours, and unlike tossas like Jail, i’m not a hypocrite.

So no hard feelings from me etc

I agree, no harm in attacking them from my perspective. We found a lot of openings in the opposing fixthre at SJP and Bournemouth have been leaky all season.

I hope Bruce sees it that way but I can see him playing safe and trying to hold them off with them sitting 18th and our mathematical safety not quite being assured of yet.

I do think that we’ve overlooked the old addage of attack being the best form of defence, though. More often than not we’re far too happy to let teams camp in our half and don’t seem to have a plan for getting the ball forwards without playing the long-ball lottery, which more often than not lets us down.

Thing is if we sit back and let Bournemouth come at us, they will and be happy with that. They’re nervous, lacking confidence and shite. We should go for the throat. We have nowt to lose. We’re not going down, have a go and see where it takes us. Same on Sunday. Hopefully we can enjoy the last 6 matches of the season, not including Man City. Which is not a match. It’s a mismatch.

Apparently, Bournemouth are “struggling” with attackers. If that’s the case, and we know their defence is shit, we should throw caution to the wind and go for an all out blitz on them, let’s get 5 or 6 and improve the GD as well as guaranteeing safety…

I ask because if it’s been set in stone for a while he might of waited till afterwards because he knew he would of been quizzed on it and taking the easy answer and using i can’t comment approach….

The club which once paid a world record fee for the best centre forward in the world, is now managed by the jovial but second rate manager who jokes that Kevin de Bruyne is “signing for Newcastle” to great hilarity from the press!
That’s a measure of how far we’ve fallen in status under Ashley and the irony is that Man City were themselves in the doldrums whilst we we in the Champions league!
Thank goodness this period in our history is soon to be ended!
    Howay the Lads!

The Premier League would never be so controversial as to block the takeover!
They are run by people who answer to others and only exist because of the tv money which is about to increase once the PIF get there feet under the table!

We should try and squeeze Gayle and Carroll into the team as much as possible in the run in as we are mainly playing championship level teams, these two have and would shine at that level

if he knew about the meeting he could of saw it 2 ways

1 he passed the test before the meeting and then got even worse of a grilling and he wouldn’t want that and takes it away from what they are really there for.

2 pass after meeting and just claim no comment can’t say owt

    Novo.

It should actually work in our favour that the two biggest games we have left are city and liverpool, neither of whom have anything left to play for. Jurgen’s shown over the last few years that he’s more than happy to give younger players some games when he can, so I wouldn’t be surprised to see them field some of his youngsters from here on out to get them some games while the pressure’s off. There’s no need to risk their stars now, and they’d be devaststed if Mane or Firmino got their leg snapped when there’s nothing left to play for. Same with city.

That being said, Liverpool in particular have some gifted youngsters who could still cause some problems, and they’ll be fresh and hungry to make a big impression on the gaffer.
