Bruce ‘Relishes The Challenge’ As He Aims For Strong Finish To This Campaign

Steve Bruce has spoken after a terrific win, which has the Magpies soar past the 40 point total with six games to play. While we’ve only jumped up one place in the table, we’re just four points behind 7th placed Arsenal.

But it’s a top ten finish that is Bruce’s aim for now. Here is what he said about finishing in the top half of the table this season.

If Bruce can get a few more performances from the lads like today’s and against Sheffield United, a top-half finish should be achievable. It would be a fantastic achievement from this team after what was a toxic summer and fall at St James Park.

Bruce also spoke about how he’s been up for the challenge from day one. He’s done exceptionally well to have Newcastle past that 40 point threshold in what has been a season full of hurdles.

Today’s performance was the best we’ve seen under Bruce. The team selection ended up being magical, with Sean Longstaff thriving until he was injured. Emil Krafth and Nabil Bentaleb played their best in a Newcastle shirt.

We also have to mention how sharp Valentino Lazaro looked after coming on in the second half. He scored a terrific goal and then minutes later, rattled the crossbar. He’s been unfortunate not to get many opportunities, but he’s given Bruce some food for thought after his cameo tonight.

Willian is a proper player. Can’t believe Chelsea won’t offer him a deal.

If you aim for top 10 you may as well try for 8th as there will be v little between the positions this season and 8th gets europa League.

West Ham, Watford and Brighton all winnable, spurs at home with Jose is winnable tho harder.

We are 4 points off 7th right now and still to play the teams in 15th, 16th and 17th.

Good bloke Bruce and fair play to him and what what really hits home for me is him always saying whatever is best for the club!!

I really hope they do keep him in some capacity but that’s doubtful and tbf any other manager we could of got in would of struggled badly imho

Fair play, I actually like the guy, keeps team spirit high and must have said the right things to raise the lads for this game. I agree, someone like that is an asset, just hope there is room for him.

Whatever happens with Bruce he can walk away with his head held high and I wish him the best and hope he does well in his next chapter if it isn’t to be here. I couldn’t of cared less before but I’ll be happy to see him doing well in whatever lies ahead for him.

Find it ridiculous that some people In the media think this has been a good season for Chelsea because of the transfer ban. They have by far one of the most talented and deepest squads in the league.

not the man to take us forward imho but if he finishes strongly then who knows what the new owners will think but we need new structure all round going forward but would certainly keep him as like a U23 manager

In terms of quality this for me has been an even worse season than when Leicester won the league. So many ‘top’ teams have underperformed.
