Newcastle In Control And Up 2-0 At The Half

Newcastle came out in their 4-2-3-1 with Sean Longstaff as the number 10 behind Dwight Gayle. It didn’t take long for Bruce’s front two to make a difference.

At the five minute mark, Longstaff made a tackle deep in the Bournemouth end. Allan Saint-Maximin, who started on the right, pounced on the ball and found Dwight Gayle. The striker put it in the back of the net to give Newcastle the early lead.

Newcastle looked bright in the first 30 minutes. Gayle was causing Bournemouth issues while Sean Longstaff and Joelinton, who was on the left, were very lively in their new(ish) roles.

Allan Saint-Maximins was giving the Bournemouth defense fits with his pace and prowess on the ball.

The Magpies doubled their lead on the 30-minute mark with another assist from Allan Saint-Maximin. He went down the right to the byline and pulled the ball back into the box for Sean Longstaff. The midfielder fired the ball into the goal for a 2-0 lead.

However, Longstaff was forced off with what appeared to a hamstring injury just minutes later. Miguel Almiron was brought on to resume his role as the number 10.

That was a superb first-half from the lads. The front four were outstanding, and Bournemouth were thoroughly outplayed. They’ll have to make some adjustments at half-time, or it’ll be four defeats on the trot for them.

A win tonight and another against West Ham and we might well be in the hunt for that 7th spot with Spurs still to play and Spurs-Arsenal each other.

    Great half.

Energy, organisation, composure and a bit of class.

Shame about Longstaff. That’s definitely his best position. Where he played learning his trade on loan and racked up the goals.

    ASM is a beaut.

    Same again 2nd half please!

Best performance in a long, long time even if Bournemouth are abject.

We’re actually passing and keeping the ball!!! Amazing. Bentaleb is a league ahead of Hayden and ASM is a maestro.

Shame that Sean got injured but it was a great finish.

Last 2 visits to Bournemouth have finished 2-2, couple of years ago we lost a 2 nil lead in last 15mins. So important we dont set back and think job done

Prefer us to play facing their goal. Too keen to turn around and play backwards ending up up with Dubs hoofing it….so frustrating.
Let Maxi and Almiron run at them

Agreed, I’d like to think we are making them look bad with how we’ve played. It’s been a good 45mins, let’s finish the job in 2nd half as they’ll come out firing

    Mund,

Agreed, it’s the way we went at them early. Pressed high and put them on the back foot. They haven’t recovered and they’re playing poorly because of us, not the other way round.

I can’t believe nobody else tried to snap up Saint Max, he came with a label as the typical trickster with no end product but the label was wrong, he has got a good shot on him and he is always creating, lots of composure… . Its just usually our other players not finishing off his hard work.

Playing well and it’s good to watch too. Joelinton looks more comfortable, would like to see him try and run past the defender once in a while.

Shelvey, Bentaleb and Longstaff were all enjoying playing quick passes in midfield.

Hope Carroll comes on and gets a goal and must be worth giving Lazaro 30 mins or more to impress

That St Maxi dribble and final pass for the 2nd goal – Messi-esc for me.
Didn’t need to look – just sensed it was the right pass to baffle the defenders who were all expecting the cross goal pass.

Add that one to his You Tube bio.

Any1 notice joelinton in great position right wing instead of taking player on and crossing he just passes back to midfield. If u dont have confidence in this game you will never be good enough. Made my mind up joelinton is dog poo and sooner he gets sold the better. Give him away for free. Quite a few times we get in advanced position only to play it back all the way to keeper who boots it and we lose it annoying and frustrating

I’ve been impressed with Joelinton, holding the ball and feeding others. Almiron, unfortunately looks like a headless chicken. Plenty of running, but where is he going?
Goes without saying that St Max has been outstanding with two assists. The speed of thinking on the first goal was first class and the second was magic.

Need to keep them at bay for 10, threaten a bit ourselves and then it’ll fizzle out.

Very harsh on joelinton, if he’s only got gayle to hit from a cross then retaining possession is the right thing to do

Hopefully that little break has taken them out of the zone and allowed our players to have a word with each other.
