According to German outlet Kicker, Newcastle are one of several clubs interested in Union Berlin striker Sebastian Andersson.
Celtic, Newcastle United & Leeds United have joined Schalke in the race for Union Berlin striker Sebastian Andersson; Union will receive up to 30% more if he leaves for a club overseas. (Kicker) https://t.co/WJaUlQ3sdG

The Swedish international has a low release clause, which is higher for overseas clubs. However, his transfer fee would still be well under £10m for the Magpies.
Andersson has two years remaining on the contract extension he signed this past February. He joined Union Berlin two summers ago on a free transfer from Kaiserslautern.
The big Swede has done very well in his first season in the German top-flight so far, matching his 13 goal output from last season in Bundesliga 2.
Andersson’s averaged about one goal in every three appearances throughout his career with various clubs in his native Sweden and the two German clubs. He’s also got nine caps with, you guessed it, 3 goals.
However, the 6’3″ hitman will turn 29-years-old in two weeks. That puts him in a sort of no man’s land with Newcastle. He’s likely not good enough if our takeover gets approved and too old if Ashley is still at the helm.
He has plenty of admirers as Celtic are also tracking him along with Leeds and Schalke, mentioned in the Kicker report. He could be seen as a replacement for Celtic striker Odsonne Edouard, who is a more likely target for Newcastle this summer.

Comment #9Yeah us signing a player with the name Andersson brings back painful memories. We’ve had some proper shocking woeful players in the past.

Comment #11My memory isn’t the best, but I seem to recall Anderssons only(?) goal for us being tragically comical in that he was clean through on goal, stumbled as he went to shoot and as he tumbled to the floor, inadvertently flicked the ball up which then bounced off his own prostrate arse and past the keeper.
Now that I think about it, I’m not sure he scored from that and that it might’ve trickled agonisingly outside the post. Either way, summed his NUFC career up a treat.
