Just like last summer, when the disaster scenario was that Rafa Benitez would leave Newcastle, we have another one looming this summer.
And that’s the Amanda Staveley takeover, which has been in for approval to the Premier League for over 12 weeks now, could eventually be turned down.
And quite honestly, that would be less of a shock than Rafa leaving last summer.
It would be a massive blow to Newcastle if that happens, and the longer the Premier League sit on the fence, the more chance Newcastle have of being left in turmoil if the takeover is blocked.
The Californian Billionaire Henry Mauriss is supposed to be interested in buying Newcastle.
But as time goes by, there is less and less chance he will be able to buy Newcastle before next season begins, and certainly not before the summer transfer window opens.
So we don’t know what’s going on behind the scene at the Premier League, but they could screw Newcastle up royally if they block the Saudi-backed bid.
I wouldn’t put it past them.
And Steve Bruce (shown above) is hinting that he will be here in the summer, and without new owners, Newcastle could be short of cash for the upcoming transfer window.
This is what Bruce said in the Chronicle today:
“When I heard of clubs like Arsenal and Tottenham particularly, who are looking at loans and frees, it shows what the climate is like there at the minute.
“Like everybody this industry – the Premier League – has been hit, like every other business, so the way forward is to pick our way through it.
“Let’s see what we have got and haven’t and keep moving forward.”
As well as finishing high up in the Premier League in three weeks time, let’s also hope the takeover is approved.
We will then be on our way – big time.
