Steve Bruce has given his press conference for our tough game at Manchester City tomorrow night.
And it’s not surprising we have picked up some injuries after the rather hectic schedule.
Miguel Almiron has a thigh injury, Andy Carroll is injured yet again, this time with a tight groin.
Florian Lejeune (thigh), Ciaran Clark (ankle), Sean Longstaff (thigh), and Isaac Hayden (thigh) are all unfit for this game.
We hope those though injuries don’t translate to hamstring strains, which is an injury that has dogged Newcastle for decades.
Yet, when Rafa was here, they seemed to go away?
Here are some comments from an upbeat Steve Bruce (shown above) today:
“Some people are against so many subs but I’m all for it because the demand has been difficult on the players.”
“Everybody is in the same boat and we all know there’ll be injuries along the way”
“Unfortunately, we’ve picked up one or two. Almirón and Saint-Maximin in particular are struggling.”
“Andy Carroll picked up a groin strain. Jamaal Lascelles has a sore ankle so we have a few.”
“That’s why we have the squad we have. I’ve been all for having five subs because the demand on the players has been difficult with the preparation time.”
“But everybody has been in the same boat.”
Bruce will have to use his backups, but so far players like Emil Kraft and Dwight Gayle have done extremely well with the chances they have been given.
We’re not really expecting anything out of tomorrow’s game at Manchester City, but miracles do happen – sometimes.

Comment #2Tear up Carroll’s new deal now.
What an absolute waste of space this guy is.
Don’t care if hes on basic wage with bonuses……if we’re paying more than 5 quid a week for him it’s too much.
What a complete crock.
Llascelles injured is no big loss……the most clueless footballer I’ve seen in the last 10 years. Is there anyone in memory who looks more uncomfortable with a ball at his feet?

Comment #3What is it with so many Newcastle supporters that they frequently raise the subject that a player maybe be sold because of his performances.
Do fans of other clubs do this ?

Like the choices mate, I’d go for Gayle personally of the two (or give Allen a run out), and maybe Manquillo at RB. The CMs will almost inevitably be pushed back into more of a CDM role by City so I’d be tempted to designate one CDM in the hopes of keeping the other CM and CAM higher up, but this could leave the front man isolated as we have seen at various points in the season so we’d also want to make sure somebody is up in support at all times.
One last observation… Going with 10 men and no keeper seems like a controversial decision 😀 Guessing Dubs is an automatic spot though…

Comment #9I think we’ll miss Lascelles a lot against city. He brings a great physical presence (fit, strong, rarely picks up injuries or looks tired on the pitch) he has bags of ability in the air, his defensive positioning and his tackling are both strong, he’s mobile and brave and rarely makes mistakes.
Not every player is like Messi on the ball, but not every role needs a Messi-type player. Personally I think Lascelles has been our most reliable defensive option at CB this season, and we’re going to have a lot of defending to do.

Comment #10KV rarely makes mistakes?? Really
He fluffed the first goal and left his man for the 2nd.
You clearly don’t watch him close enough to make that statement.
A CB doesn’t need to be Messi but he should have basic control and not total panic when receiving it.
He’s not a kid anymore and he’s been captain of one of the biggest clubs in the country for some time now….The Engalnd set up is exactly bursting with class centre halfs at the minute but is anyone touting for Llascelles to get a call up? Not on your Nelly.
Shar was dropped for having one bad game…would Llascelles get dropped if he was fit? Schar a far better player than Llascelles.
You say he’s great in the air but he never looks in any danger if scoring a header from free kick or corner.
I think he’s exactly as you describe…big and strong….but a very very average footballer
