This is the team we think Steve Bruce will select for tomorrow’s match at Watford. It has six changes from the loss to Manchester City.
Allan Saint-Maximin, Jamaal Lascelles, and Miguel Almiron will all jump straight back into the team if fit. Bruce seemed to indicate during his press conference this morning that they are.
Despite being pulled midway through the second half on Wednesday, starting Jonjo Shelvey for the fourth time in 11 days would be a risk. So Nabil Bentaleb partners Matty Longstaff in midfield as Bruce has few options with Sean Longstaff and Isaac Hayden ruled out.
The defense returns to what is probably our best back-four of Manquillo, Fernandez, Lascelles, and Danny Rose. This would be Federico’s sixth start in three weeks. What a warrior he’s been this season.
In attack, besides the return of Saint-Maximin and Almiron, Dwight Gayle gets back into the team while Valentino Lazaro retains his place on the wing.
Bruce has to give the Austrian a chance to show what he’s got, and the Manchester City match didn’t provide much of an opportunity for him.

Comment #6Half life was classic, I’m definitely too slow these days – fps games seem to have speeded up to 200 mph , either that or my reflexes have slowed a lot – quite possibly both 😀

Comment #15Not far off what I was thinking too. Ritchie for Rose at LB, Allen up top but have the front 4 roaming around and swapping trying to find spaces, and pressing as much as possible.

Comment #21I think keeping Rose is excellent, if that’s the transfer fee. England fullback, played in a Champions league final, getting fitter. Good player. Jetro would have loved, but always been injury prone.

Comment #25Danny Rose – 60k a week , don’t think he’s worth that – he’s generally been pretty poor for us and he’ll no doubt want a 3/4 year deal to take him to the end of his playing days – no thanks

Comment #30Rose too defensive there against weaker sides for me. I’d like so see us go for somebody who’ll get a bit higher and offers more quality going forward.

Comment #31Didn’t Rose say he wanted to go to Leicester anyway? If he ends up here next season it’s because the team(s) he wanted to play for didn’t want him. His shot at international football has been and gone now, he won’t be competing for anything in Europe with us until he’s at least 32 and on his way out, no thanks. As soon as he thinks he’s secured a pay packet for 3 he’ll put his feet up. Would like us to get a younger, hungrier player for a little more money.

Comment #34It appears CAS will exonerate Man City and say no ffp rules were broken.
I’d suggest that means it’s the end of ffp – which was brought in to shield the top 6 (City EXcluded) from eating at the top table.
We’re in for one hell of a ride fellow Geordies.

On my iPhone I load up the blog and just get the header. Turn it on it’s side to get landscape then move the screen to get stories. After opening one, put phone back to normal portrait and works fine. Not sure what phone you have but give it a try

Comment #38Ritchie’s not the best defensively but we’re not likely to be getting overrun by watford here. Nothing to lose and we’ve looked better when we’ve had our more creative players on the pitch. I think we could make ir work with him or Rose there, but I’d lke to see how we get on having more of a go at teams and in the modern game a lot of the time that means playing more attacking wing backs

Comment #40It’s not the only way, but it’s an option that I think would work well here and worth a try in the current curcumstances.
