Almiron, Saint-Maximin, And Shelvey All Start At Watford

This is the side Steve Bruce has picked for today’s match at Watford. It has five changes from Manchester City.

Bruce has picked what is possibly his strongest side with Almiron, Saint-Maximin, and Jamaal Lascelles returning to the team. He’s also kept Jonjo Shelvey in midfield and partnered him with Fabian Schar.

Dwight Gayle returns to lead the attack while Matt Ritchie keeps his place with Valentino Lazaro dropping back to the bench.

Here is the team Nigel Pearson will send out for the hosts.

Newcastle need to make amends for Wednesday’s thrashing. We also need a result to keep the chances of a top ten finish from slipping away. Today at Vicarage Road is the perfect opportunity to get back on track.

Howay The Lads!

Schar???? Ahead of Bentaleb and Matty.

well lets see how it goes anyway, will reserve judgement until afterwards, but his commitment is highly questionable at the moment.

No one hates or dislikes Bruce, but we all just feel we can do a lot better when the takeover gets finalised. If Bruce was world class Like Poch then there would be no one better id prefer than Bruce, but hes just not.

Everyone likes Bruce but he isnt the man to take us forward if we want to achieve things. Sure hes done way better than everyone thought he would and deserves massive credit for that. But that “way better” is still a million levels below a quality coach such as Poch et.al.

I can hardly blame Bruce for playing Schar over Bentaleb. I had no idea where all the rave reviews were coming from for Bentaleb when he first signed; Bentaleb looked anonymous most of the time at Spurs, too, when I saw him.

Bentaleb’s positioning is almost miracle like in nature, a real disappearing act.

I am hoping to see Shelvey pushed further forward again, you cannot judge Shelvey playing that role on one game, and that one particular game being against a juggernaut Man City.

If Watford go down, I wouldnt mind Sarr the RW from their team.

He was one of those players we were linked with a while back but couldnt quite get over the line.

Him ASM and Miggy would be dynamite with a pacey strong striker in front of them.

Cabbage heeds got no concept of squad rotation
He’s found a group of players who got a few results and it seems he’s going to play them until they can’t walk

It appears only remaining hold up with NUFC takeover is Man Utd’s sponsorship deal with Saudi Telecom (PIF own 70%), which PL insist must end prior to approving the takeover. Likely to end 31st July, but only on the provision PL give provisional approval on those terms.

We will probably know in the first ten minutes if that midfield will work. If it doesn’t,
let’s hope Bruce will make the changes needed even before the half time whistle.

Cant say Bruce isnt brave. We slagged him for not dropping Joelinton and giving Gayle more chances ahead of him, and many said we should try schar in midfield. Good on him. Now I just gotta find a stream.

    Anyone on a good stream?

Not even any youngsters on the bench other than Matty. What will it take for this club to start actually giving talented young players a chance?

I know we struggled and couldn’t beat both villa and west ham at home but Bruce is very lucky this one has come round straight after the city surrender. Should be a walk in the park, 3-1 to us easily, if not more.

This is exactly the kind of game we’ve struggled with for years and even more so when we have nothing to play for. First 10 minutes will be key to set the tempo and get in their faces. They have good technicians on the ball, the last we want to do is give them time and space to settle and get a bit of confidence.

On this, what are you thinking if you are Matty Longstaff? Steve Bruce has made plenty of public calls for him to stay but you’re hardly sending out that message by playing a centre-half, who could well leave the club himself in the summer, ahead of him in midfield. (Chronic)
