Newcastle Show A Reaction And Lead Watford 1-0 At The Half

Newcastle began in their 4-2-3-1 with Fabian Schar in the midfield. Allan Saint-Maximin and Matt Ritchie played as traditional wingers with Allan on the right and Ritchie on the left.

The lads started much brighter and dominated the first ten minutes. They created a few chances, including a golden opportunity for Miguel Almiron, but were unable to put any away.

Watford responded well and started to threaten Newcastle. The Magpies had some critical defensive clearances, including a goal-line one from Jamaal Lascelles in the 16th minute.

Newcastle broke the stalemate in the 22nd minute through a corner. Matt Ritchie whipped in a cross that Federico Fernandez flicked toward the far post. Both Dwight Gayle and Fabian Schar made runs, but it was Gayle who got there first to tap the ball in for his third goal this season.

Newcastle almost doubled the lead in the 35th minute when Saint-Maximin was sent clear on the Watford goal. However, Ben Foster made an excellent save on the Frenchman’s low shot.

Watford had an opportunity to level the proceedings on a 42nd-minute set-piece. Will Hughes free-kick was sent into the box and pinballed off numerous players before being cleared to Miguel Almiron, whose counter-attack was ultimately thwarted by the Hornets.

Newcastle provided the necessary and take the lead at halftime. Watford had a few spells that put the Magpies under pressure.

It’s an important second half as Watford will look to regroup and are fighting for their Premier League lives. So we expect them to come out full of determination to try to get a result.

Bruce has to prepare the lads for what could be a difficult second half.

No way was that a penalty for the second one. There is something seriously wrong in the game that something like that cant be ruled out with VAR

It would be easy to just blame the ref or look at the questionable penatly decisions there but whichever way you look at it, that second half was nowhere near good enough. We missed too many opportunities to put that game to bed and then just rolled over for them.

Should have put away our chances when we were on top in 1st half, paid the penalty (literally) 2nd half.

Diane Abbott has achieved far more than you in her life, having come from very meagre means. Must rile you up something mad that a first generation immigrant black woman has done so well for herself and you’re simply pond life, despite probably coming from a family who has been on these shores for many more generations.

If a Watford player had manhandled Gayle in the box like manq did we would be screaming for a penalty – we rolled over in 2nd half

I dont think Manquillo did a lot wrong there, he stood his ground and barely touched him.

I’m well able to call a pen against us, if it’s a pen it’s a pen I’m not going to deny it out of bias. I just dont think it was even close to being a pen, didnt see the 1st one but the second one for me was definitely not a pen.

    Bruce out!
3 more defeats to go to end this misery.
In the next 3 games we will concede at least 8 goals and score none.
Great end to the season of great achievement.

You know nothing about my life or achievements! You merely assume to know! My comment was not about colour, creed, race or her assent. I was making comparisons to their inability to express and deliver logic in their chosen fields…… Both out of their depth and ramble out total and utter shite every time they open their mouths. Now do me a favour please, go and put your high horse away, eat your spaghetti hoops and be a good lad for your mam.

Disgusting performance, no heart, skill, effort. Gave ball away too much, passed back too much. Clueless manager who could not motivate the team. Poor substiutions. Should have played the kids at least they would have given their all.
