Newcastle will remain in 13th place after this weekend’s Premier League fixtures with other results going our way. However, a top ten finish is now all but a pipedream as the Magpies sit 7 points adrift from 10th placed Burnley with just three to play.
It looked promising that the lads had buried the Manchester City debacle with an encouraging first-half at Vicarage Road on Saturday. Though Watford emerged for the second with determination while Newcastle didn’t raise their levels to match the Hornets.
Two penalties, whether soft or not, led to a vital three points for Watford and put a fork into Newcastle’s top ten finish hopes. Ultimately, Watford wanted the result, and the cards fell their way.
Newcastle had their big boys back in Allan Saint-Maximin, Miguel Almiron, and Jamaal Lascelles. However, all three faded in the second half while picking up slight knocks. So we’ll have to wait to see if they are available for Spurs on Wednesday.
Our best player poll has Dwight Gayle edging the captain with 24% of the vote to Lascelles’s 21%.
Gayle took his goal well and has finally found his form after a season of frustration. He’s bagged three goals since the league resumed and could be the man to lead the line in the final three games this season.
Joelinton just hasn’t come to grips as a number nine. Andy Carroll is injured again. Yoshinori Muto is almost definitely away this summer.
Gayle, like a few others in Fabian Schar, Isaac Hayden, and DeAndre Yedlin, has just one year left on his contract. We expect that if the takeover falls through, Bruce would like to keep the 29-year-old for next season and beyond.
However, we just can’t see Gayle getting a new deal should our prospective new owners finally get the approval to run this club.

Comment #1I don’t think Gayle is Prem quality. A lot of people have said before, he would thrive north of the border at Celtic or Rangers. Too good for the Champo, not quite good enough for the Prem.

Comment #85m for Rose is ok i guess, but no way should we pay him his 60k per week for the next 3 years. Willems if fit is a no-brainer.
Gayle isnt a PL CF but yet is our best chance of scoring goals – kinda highlights the issues we have up front.

Comment #16“Southampton’s ownership situation took nine months to unravel.
“Newcastle feels more urgent than that and the word from the consortium is that while it has frustrated the investors, there’s no prospect of Saudi Arabia’s PiF walking away from the deal.
“But a decision is required by the time the season finishes and the transfer window opens, with the margin for making key decisions on next season slims.”

Seems like football’s golden era of financial fairness is coming to an end. You mark my words, it’ll be dominated by money from now on.

Comment #23Absolutely Mund. I think Edwards is just thinking out loud, rather than stating he has anything like hot new info. I’m sticking to after the season, with a few leaks in the days just before.
Re a new manager, if the owners want to limit spend I would go for Rafa actually.

Comment #36Lesh…………. Although your attempts to make the blog a harmonious place are admirable, as Jail rightly points out, it is a blog after all. Football and in particular NUFC is an emotive subject and people will disagree and the disagreements will become heated. That’s Geordies for you.
What does become boring and tedious on here are the repetitive comments that drone on for days regarding the same disagreement using the same rhetoric with words sometimes rearranged. Better sometimes just to agree to disagree IMHO .
If this blog was full of sycophantic back slappers that all agreed it would indeed be extremely boring and pointless to read so a bit less repetition and the job’s a goodun. What you need to focus on Lesh is getting that young whippersnapper reeled in and towing the party line. He’s bringing the loony left into disrepute and I can see your frustration bursting through. Crack thar whip harder and get him under orders, it’s your responsibility man.
