It certainly wasn’t a thriller at the Amex this evening. Brighton leave happy with the point that ensures their safety while Newcastle showed precious little cutting edge in the final third.
The Magpies did at least have some impetus to get the three points by pushing for a winner for much of the second half. But they showed no urgency, desire, or intensity in a first half where Newcastle sat back but comfortably dealt with whatever Brighton threw their way.
It wasn’t pretty, but we have to remember this was the 9th game in a month and comes after a three-month delay due to a pandemic. So all things considered, this performance is nothing to get to up in arms over.
Other than a super save by Dubravka, Newcastle had very few moments of distinction. That goes with the performances as well. No Magpie really shined, but none were dreadful either.
This match actually winds up being a typical end of the season affair where both sides are comfortable and have little to play for. We’ll take the point as it ensures we don’t lose four games on the trot for the first time this season.
Now it’s on to face Liverpool at the familiar confines of St James Park. Hopefully, we can get another result to end this campaign with some semblance of a high.

i do remember the state we were in with Bruce coming in late etc. I just think we finished 13th with 45 points last season, its not like we finished on 50 odd and would be a huge stretch to aim to improve, even if we didnt manage it.

That’s naughty 😉
Anyway I still hope that guy makes it. However, for 40 million, shattering the club record, a lot of research must have gone into that decision.
Who done the research?

I’m with you. It’s just that with Rafa’s departure, it was all over for some. League one, Conference! It didn’t exactly pan out that way.
Next year, I expect CL football, though 🙂
I’ll gradually be bringing expectations down, I know.

Comment #50If any fans in this world deserve a takeover its us…we can’t go on watching this Shiite from a manager out of his depth in the premier league…ffs why..too many years of this now n enough is enough..not much to ask for some sort of update is it..but I’m confident and staying confident about the takeover of our club…..Hwtl

All depends on the takeover going through 🙂
With it, top 8 to be realistic.

Anyone who didn’t nod off, look at their phone, make a drink, go to the bog etc. If you watched every single second, you deserve the award. Maybe that’s why Kieron was in the studio, it was Dire.

Comment #53our defenders used to contribute many of our goals but this has dried up, the last time one of our defenders scored was Lejeune’s 2 goals against Everton on 21st January 18 matches ago.

2. Takeover: top 8 and win a cup

Comment #62I’ve said it from the start of his tenure. He’s got away with it this season after inheriting a well drilled defence. He does not have the capability to deal with a well run PL club, he most definitely does not have the capability to manage a club overseen by the shambles that are Mike Ashley and Lee Churnley, the worst part is, this Man U loving fan is delighted with his performance???
