Liverpool were just too much today as the Magpies close this crazy season with a 3-1 defeat to the champions.
Newcastle emerged from the tunnel making one change after the 1-1 first half. Joelinton, and his new magenta hair, was brought on for Allan Saint-Maximin, who had a quiet first half.
Just three minutes into the half, Bruce was forced to make a second change after Nabil Bentaleb was brought off for Sean Longstaff. Bentaleb had suffered a knee injury in the first half, which he seemed to aggravate upon landing after an aerial duel.
Longstaff got Newcastle’s third shot of the match in the 50th minute after Jonjo Shelvey cooly cushioned a ball into his path outside the box. Sean’s effort went skidding just wide of the goal.
Liverpool took the lead like a flash of lightning in the 59th minute. The ball was launched up the pitch to Andrew Robertson down the left. He tapped the ball to Divock Origi, who cut inside and launched a shot from just outside the box that beat Dubravka.
Newcastle afforded the Liverpool striker far too much space and should have closed him down.
Klopp brought on some of his big guns for the final 25 minutes in Mo Salah, Sadio Mane, and Roberto Firmino. Salah almost bagged his 20th of the season, hitting the post just minutes after coming on.
Bruce then made another two substitutions bringing Andy Carroll and Isaac Hayden on for Dwight Gayle and Miguel Almiron giving Newcastle some more steel on the pitch.
Salah soon got another chance in the 72nd minute on a one-on-one with Dubravka. However, Federico Fernandez was able to recover and performed a brilliant sliding tackle to deny the Egyptian.
Bruce made his final change in the 74th minute, and it’ll be one to remember as Kelland Watts was brought on for Danny Rose. What a moment for the young lad as he finally gets his debut.
Liverpool added another through Sadio Mane in the 87th minute. He cut in from the left and launched a shot past into the back of the net. Newcastle once again allowed one of Liverpool’s danger men too much space.
It was a promising start to this one but a familiar outcome as Newcastle fall to Liverpool 3-1 for a second time this season. We remain in 13th place on 44 points but it’s another defeat as we end the campaign on a five-match winless streak.

God help me if I want to post.
It’s not acceptable, I don’t have a problem at all on a laptop, but dear me, Ed and Neil will lose people with that mess of a mobile site.

I don’t even want to contemplate what would happen if it weren’t successful.

Asking posters to put up what he has done wrong this season was for Bruce lovers not haters.

Comment #72Hibbitt, Bruce definitely more of a championship manager. But that’s why I’m stressing that he did OK for us. Still surprised people weren’t unhappy with 13th under the great Benitez if they are so radically unhappy under a poorer man now.

Getting a head start defending the turd and his cabbage heeded mate
We finished on 44 points, exactly the average for the turd while hes managed to keep us from relegation
Aiming for 44 points every years isnt good enough
Cabbage heed is good enough
Have we been sold yet ??
