Well, the season has drawn to a close with a whimper rather than the surge we had hoped for. After getting off to a fabulous start when the league resumed, Newcastle managed just 1 point in the final five games.
Sunday’s match against Liverpool went very much the same way as the away fixture in September. An unlikely early lead from the Magpies followed by total domination and three goals from Liverpool.
The first half was going quite well until Virgil van Dijk leveled the game with a looping header late in the half. Up until that point, Newcastle had been stingy defensively but our diminutive backline was always going to be tested.
The second half saw Liverpool get their just rewards as the Magpies were just overmatched especially when the big three of Mo Salah, Sadio Mane, and Roberto Firmino made their grand entrances with about 25 minutes to play.
There were a few noteworthy moments in the game. One was the debut of Kell Watts who came on for Danny Rose in the 78th minute. What a moment for the Alnwick-born 20-year-old.
Another moment of distinction was Federico Fernandez’s superb sliding tackle on Mohamed Salah when he was through on goal. What a recovery from the Argentine!
It’s fitting that Federico win the poll as Newcastle’s best player in our final game this season. He has been such a warrior throughout. That is no more evident than in the fact that he played every minute since the league restarted in late June.
He was the only one of our six center-backs that didn’t suffer a long-term injury and his presence was vital until the very end.

You may be correct about Edwards but there is something causing an issue the Fpp is very narrow
There is very little that can caused a deal to fail
But integrity in the submission is one
So it’s pretty clear that the separation of the state and pif is a critical issue
Any hint that the relationship between the two has been misleading gives the premier league a lever when we all know piracy is the elephant in the room

Comment #10Tackle; I think Ferreday had left after we were relegated. John Gallagher played left wing, canny player. He scored the fifth goal in the 5-2 defeat of Leeds.

Comment #13The premier league don’t want to fail the deal nor will the gov want them to put any strains on relations. You really think the English government will let the PL mess with that?
But it doesn’t matter it’s in my belief that the league are working with t he consortium to resolve this. They would this even if there hadn’t been a pandemic but the economy has been rocked and they need and obviously want it with what it would bring.
All the articles that have come out have come from the opposing sides PR. How on earth can they go into so much detail in a totally confidential process?
The only side who have come out of this looking any good is the consortium who is to buy us.

Judging by the question you asked when you posted the blues link, you weren’t around or perhaps too young to remember those times.
There was never any suggestion of drink or any other intoxicating substances when such music was aired. LP covers had a purpose as did alcohol. I forget what they were.
Anyways, as it’s gone midnight…..

Comment #27Yes, yes, hash browns are an Americanism, but they’re just so good they force themselves into the starting line up.
I prefer baby potatoes, par boiled in their jackets, the sliced in half and slowly pan fried face down in the fat and juices rendered from the bacon and plump pork sausages. Splendid.
You don’t have beans, we’re not philistines after all, this is a proper gentlemen’s cooked breakfast.
You want beans you can have them on their own on top of buttered toast, or with the toast to the side of the beans, as a gent would enjoy his morning kipper.

Comment #31Bill’s if you’re about, I should have said we were a (far) bigger club than Liverpool up to 1970. Which of course is a big chunk of both club’s history.
After 1970 it’s been Liverpool, daylight, then us of course, although we’ve still had our moments, under Keegan and Bobby, and even at our lowest ebbs, had fantastic and thrilling players like Supermac, Gazza and Beardsley.
The point though is that we were still a magnificent club when Ashley bought us and our status since has noticeably fallen due to the stagnation of the Ashley years, and also relatively regressed, to a degree that many younger football fans, say under 35, wouldn’t at all see us as a crown jewel of the English game.
They’d see us more like a West Ham or a Villa ( also fallen on hard times), and they might not be too far wrong given the events of the past 13 years.

You go out tomorrow, have fun, shop till you drop and enjoy your day. This takeover’s really impacting on most of us and the sooner the EPL gets a grip and finds a way to clear it, the better.
Take care bonny lass.

Good assessment @31 but there’s one but….. according to Bruce, the club’s not stagnating.
Oh well, if he’s been living on a different planet to the rest if it, so be it.

Comment #37Steve Bruce gets a B for last season. Ashley gets an F.
In all this time he’s never risen above the bitterness that came about after falling out with the fans following the Keegan fiasco, and become anything even resembling the custodian he needed to be.
The club has home crowds of 50 000, of course it needs to be competitive, and needs to provide value for money on the match day ticket.
Can’t get your feelings hurt, and punish others for it, like a perpetual adolescent, you’re the owner of Newcastle United Football Club man.

Comment #38While I’m blagging on about good custodians, I’ll borrow from Barney Ronay and say I hope the Saudi’s, when they do get their hands on the club, and despite their immense wealth, recognise “that chemistry, careful coaching and good husbandry is still the best way to succeed.”
It’s not just about trophies and entertaining football, they’ll have the soul and integrity of the club to protect.

Comment #40Nicky @35: are you sure about Bruce’s decency? One who leaves his employers high and dry, makes snyde comments about his predecessor at the first opportunity and strings out excuses followed by the proverbial “no excuses.”
