Report – Diminished Crowds Could Return For Start Of Next Season

The Mirror is reporting that Newcastle fans may soon get to cheer on the Magpies at St James Park once again. Though it will not be 52,000 strong. According to the report, the whole of next season could be played with a reduced number of fans in the stands.

This claim has both an upside as well as a downside. We fully expected next season to start with the matches behind closed doors. So if when September 12th rolls around, stadiums can house fans at a diminished capacity, that would be better than initially anticipated.

However, the problem is just when are things going to return to normal. The Mirror says it could be some time before restrictions on attendance at sporting events are lifted. The Mirror cites comments from James Calder, who has been working with the government and health officials.

Calder told the BBC that he doesn’t foresee a return to full stadiums until a vaccine is not only developed but widely dispersed amongst the public.

A cricket friendly between Surrey and Middlesex was played before a thousand fans last Sunday. There will also be a limited amount of fans allowed at the World Snooker Championships in Sheffield beginning on Friday.

However, those events have a much more subdued crowd without the chanting and cheering that takes place at football matches. Calder says the spread of the virus through droplets will be a concern at football matches so socially distanced fans could be the norm for the foreseeable future.

I always thought Levy was the majority share holder but to be fair it does look like Lewis has just over 70% and Levy just under 30%.

Guess I was wrong, but the point is that the PL knows who owns every club.

From earlier re Bournemouth. I think they should consider suing the PL or FA for the Ref/VAR not to be able to overrule the goal line technology. It was so obviously over the line. Technology isn’t infallible.

Not only have we been booted by Ashley for 13 years, but the PL have also waded in and joined him, what have we done as loyal fans to warrant this abuse.

At some point the impasse has to end.
Either by mutual consent or by end of exclusivity clause (if one exists).

Very worst case scenario is the Saudi interest wains and Mauriss steps up and we get no better than we had with Fatty – then the Saudi’s come to agreement with the PL and go and buy another club to shower with gold.

Now that would be unjust !!!

What happened to “business as usual” then?

Why would Ashley push on and make money available for new signings and contracts, but not do the accounts?

My guess (and it is a guess…) is he was given a chance to delay the submission due to covid and staff being furloughed

“The only true stories are the ones we want to hear”

    This is perfect!
You have since day 1 dismissed anything positive from journalists & demanded real proof from those that have believed it!
Now anything negative from those SAME journalists & you are all over it as gospel!
Your whole arguments are full of contradictions!

What TRUE fan constantly looks for as many negatives as possible in the club they profess to love??
Hibbit 100% had you nailed right from the off!

I think Luke Edwards has reported the facts truthfully. What is clear now is that there is a live bid from the PIF consortium. It has not been rejected. But the PL are still not satisfied that the piracy issue has been resolved satisfactorily. I had hoped that the Saudis would offer Bein compensation via the PL, but it seems clear now that they don’t want to do anything, and are still playing the card that PIF has nothing to do with the piracy. I think they are being naive and Staveley should have advised them better on this. I don’t blame the PL on this as they have to ensure the integrity of their members main source of income. If the Saudis don’t budge the takeover will not be approved.

I don’t believe any of them any more than any other mate. I’m still firmly of the opinion that nobody knows anything. The negative reports could be every bit as wrong as the positive ones.

My point was that others seem to accept anything positive and reject anything negative.

Nobody in their right mind is that caught up in a fantasy world that they can’t see the confirmation bias at play there.

Classic PR job if you ask me.

    Tackle.
    That’s my worst fear.
They go away and when the TV rights come round they enter the market and resolve the piracy.
The PL then let them buy West Ham.
We then miss out on the PIF funds, having missed out on Abu Dhabi in 2008.
    Slitting wrists time!

    From previous thread

Spurs are owned by some guy who lives in a tax haven; I’ve forgotten his name but Levy runs it for him but money supply from exile. Abramovich, who has more skeletons in the cupboard and probably operating under the watchful eye of the kgb, has got a ceo to run Chelsea but he will decide how much money is spent.
This thing with our takeover is about piracy I’m sure but I can’t see the PL turning it down as KSA will make a legal challenge! Very embarrassing for the lightweight PL especially with Philip Hammond now working for the Saudis. Good luck Masters!

What the vegan doesn’t understand (well there is a lot) is the positive reports arent articles it’s coming from people we know we can trust.

All the negative spins have been articles put out there on two things, one it’s the opposers PR team putting it out there or the second is the journos just giving assumptions and opinion of where it’s at.

How do all these journos who write in great detail about the deal and what’s happening at each stage when it’s a totally confidential process?

    Kev,

Do you seriously think this is a PR campaign and the whole sale talk is fiction?

If there was no truth in this, you can guarantee either BEIN or Saudi would have said so.

Incredibly naive or just on the wind up?

I’ve an awful feeling the Saudis arent really intered in buying us, and that’s why the pl arent approving it. Either way I get the feeling we are also not going to hear anything on it this year and it might even fizzle out without anything being released by any party.

But I’m starting to get that feeling that its gonna go on and on and on, basically I have a feeling we are gonna be in this EXACT same position in December.

I’ve never seen such shameful rewriting of history as Jibbers telling us we were shambolic until Brucie put his stamp on the team (except for BSIB, telling us we were relegation favourites) two Ashley apologists inventing history to defend Mikey and his man. Like I said it was a shambles when he tried to put his stamp on it, hence his reverting back to last seasons set up. After the third 0-0 at home, the first in our history he realised he had to change it up, we beat ten man Soton and ten man Sheff Utd, since then we have ended up with the second worse defence post restart when he applied his ‘stamp’
And FYI Jibbers, I only used that statbunker site to check on the clean sheets and assists of championship defenders.
