Amanda Staveley Comes Out Swinging Against The Premier League And ‘Other Clubs’

After a carefully worded statement was released by the Amanda Staveley-led consortium, the English financier has given an interview to the Times of London. She has not held her tongue as she comes out swinging against the Premier League and other clubs.

The Chronicle has released the following statements from Staveley when asked if she blamed the Premier League for the deal falling through:

“Of course we do.

“They had a chance, they say we have not answered all the questions and we have done so. But the other clubs in the Premier League didn’t want it to happen.

“We are so heartbroken for the Newcastle fans as the investment that was going to go into the club, especially with everything happening with Brexit and Covid, would have been so important.

“This is catastrophic for them. It has been going on for so long and the opportunity was there.

“The piracy issue was not an issue but we tried to resolve it anyway.

“They [the Premier League] tried to make the state of Saudi a director. The PIF had agreed to become a director.

“Do we give up now? I don’t know, there may be a way forward, but we have had to put a statement out.

“I’m trying to deal with the facts and we had to make a decision today.”

While this wound is very fresh, we don’t want to put too much hope into the latter part of her statement about a way forward. It’s best to just move on from this absolute farce and fiasco.

Though the first part of her statement holds some weight in our estimation. Staveley lays the blame at the Premier League’s feet. She alludes to two reasons why they have delayed this process which has ultimately doomed the bid.

The first is ‘other clubs’, likely the big six, didn’t want to have to contend with a revitalized Newcastle United. Many fans have hinted that if the Saudi’s were after Manchester United or their ilk, this consortium would have been approved with little bother.

The other reason is that the Premier League didn’t see the Saudi state and the Public Investment Fund as separate entities. A few days ago, it was reported by the BBC that the Premier League were delaying the takeover due to the lack of clarity of who would hold the ‘ultimate responsibility’ at the club.

It seems that the league was never satisfied that Mohammed Bin Salman, the Saudi Crown Prince and Chairman of PIF, wouldn’t be the one pulling the strings at Newcastle.

Stavely refutes that and states that she gave the league everything they asked for. So we’ll likely hear a lot more from Amanda going forward as she does not appear to be letting this go just yet.

The Chronicle reached out to the Premier League for a statement, and of course, they didn’t provide one. Newcastle United also did not provide a comment.

Keith Downie has tweeted that Newcastle were unaware that the consortium was pulling out today.

This news today has gone global hitting the headlines in all the major publications. The Premier League and Newcastle United must release a statement about what exactly has transpired.

Boycott the club til Ashley’s gone.

No more profits from us long-suffering fans.

He won’t keep a club that’s costing him money. Take the funds away and he’ll be gone in no time.

I didn’t see your post on the previous thread before I responded to Chicousa’s.

Yup, the so called ‘bigger clubs’ will certainly have an interest until they’re ready to leave the EPL to join a super league.

Wont mind seeing the “big” clubs do one
Lets see them take a gamble on the super league, they might find a whole lot of people not interested in their little private club

My theory is that there’s no need for all this talk about “ok what you could have had” from the bidders unless it’s to rally support for a takeover revival.

    Boycotts come up again
Whilst I think there will certainly be a bigger proportion who cancel tickets there will never be a complete one as for a lot of fans it is just what they do – follow the team
Boycotting TV will make absolutely no difference in the short term as deals already in place.
I feel we are in deep crap this time as ashley has no interest at all and wants out. Hope he gets an invitation to discuss this face to face with the saudis

Personally I think it’s just shite stirring about Ashley renegotiating. The PL didn’t want to risk their deal with Qatar and stalled hoping the Pif would pull out. I said a few times on here that is what I feared was happening. They got their wish.

Yes Munster. It seems there was an attempt. I might post it here:

    https://www.reddit.com/r/therewasanattempt

It’s about up to the usual standards of that site in how pathetic it turned out to be.

The PL decided that the Saudi state was in control of its own money and the Saudis disagreed. Honestly, what did they expect?

I remember saying several times that if this was the issue it could be resolved in 2 minutes on wikipedia and the bid would fail.

    Shocker, it did.

With Ashley paying the consortium a vendor loan before it started one might be inclined to believe they knew it would fail all along. I certainly don’t see how they thought it would pan out any differently, which was the main reason I assumed it was all nonsense.

The Saudi’s response to everything that was going on around this takeover was only ever going to compromise any attempt to buy a PL club.

I hate to say it but they’ve come out of this looking like rank amateurs.

Seems more issues than have been communicated if the PL couldn’t get comfortable. Contrary to Staveley, the piracy was an issue or it wouldn’t have went the WTO route. The surprise is why the Saudis appealed. Second, I’m not sure the timing to file suit against Barclay’s was the best for Staveley considering how certain aspects were portrayed in the media. Ashley wants out and the fans want him out. Let’s hope the new buyer steps up.

Fans are helpless, there will be no fans in the foreseeable future, what else can we do. Protesting doesn’t work, it might have if more people had protested, but no one wants to bother. We are left with an owner who is not interested at all.
