Amanda Staveley Comes Out Swinging Against The Premier League And ‘Other Clubs’

After a carefully worded statement was released by the Amanda Staveley-led consortium, the English financier has given an interview to the Times of London. She has not held her tongue as she comes out swinging against the Premier League and other clubs.

The Chronicle has released the following statements from Staveley when asked if she blamed the Premier League for the deal falling through:

“Of course we do.

“They had a chance, they say we have not answered all the questions and we have done so. But the other clubs in the Premier League didn’t want it to happen.

“We are so heartbroken for the Newcastle fans as the investment that was going to go into the club, especially with everything happening with Brexit and Covid, would have been so important.

“This is catastrophic for them. It has been going on for so long and the opportunity was there.

“The piracy issue was not an issue but we tried to resolve it anyway.

“They [the Premier League] tried to make the state of Saudi a director. The PIF had agreed to become a director.

“Do we give up now? I don’t know, there may be a way forward, but we have had to put a statement out.

“I’m trying to deal with the facts and we had to make a decision today.”

While this wound is very fresh, we don’t want to put too much hope into the latter part of her statement about a way forward. It’s best to just move on from this absolute farce and fiasco.

Though the first part of her statement holds some weight in our estimation. Staveley lays the blame at the Premier League’s feet. She alludes to two reasons why they have delayed this process which has ultimately doomed the bid.

The first is ‘other clubs’, likely the big six, didn’t want to have to contend with a revitalized Newcastle United. Many fans have hinted that if the Saudi’s were after Manchester United or their ilk, this consortium would have been approved with little bother.

The other reason is that the Premier League didn’t see the Saudi state and the Public Investment Fund as separate entities. A few days ago, it was reported by the BBC that the Premier League were delaying the takeover due to the lack of clarity of who would hold the ‘ultimate responsibility’ at the club.

It seems that the league was never satisfied that Mohammed Bin Salman, the Saudi Crown Prince and Chairman of PIF, wouldn’t be the one pulling the strings at Newcastle.

Stavely refutes that and states that she gave the league everything they asked for. So we’ll likely hear a lot more from Amanda going forward as she does not appear to be letting this go just yet.

The Chronicle reached out to the Premier League for a statement, and of course, they didn’t provide one. Newcastle United also did not provide a comment.

Keith Downie has tweeted that Newcastle were unaware that the consortium was pulling out today.

This news today has gone global hitting the headlines in all the major publications. The Premier League and Newcastle United must release a statement about what exactly has transpired.

So now it looks like this battle is over and casualties have been suffered on all sides. Maybe now we can disagree with each other without abuse and scorn seeing as our real enemy is every other club in the pl, meddling politicians and kudos – seeking media snakes.

People still quoting ‘sources’ from journos that systematically lie to them and believing Staveley spoke to The Times.

    Jesus Christ.

    It’s over.

The Staveley quotes are fabrications first started by Jim White making up rubbish, then taken up and embellished by media outlets who have been stringing everybody along for months ffs.

The only primary sources of comment we have currently are the official statement, tweets directly from James Reuben and a rather generic tweet from Staveley’s husband. That’s it.

Even if Staveley’s words above were real, the part about “piracy wasn’t an issue, but we tried to sort it anyway” doesn’t wash. Why would you, as buyers, introduce extraneous factors into the process unnecessarily, unsolicited? You wouldn’t.

Not sure why the other teams have a say on who is allowed to own other clubs when you buy a house you don’t have to ask your neighbours for permission
Premier League have no backbone if this wasn’t going to be passed they should have made the decision after 4-6 weeks instead of stringing everyone along that includes Ashley

Support the team not the regime.
As long as you keep the faith you will see the club resurrected.
No Bale or Coutinho this season. Lots of frees and loans but we can stay in the Prem. that’s all we ask right?

Kv can you not get it that people are genuinely upset at this development
Leave out the boycott rubbish. You’re saying that people should do what you can’t do
    A – you haven’t got a season ticket
B – as youre always saying you haven’t got money I’m assuming that you haven’t paid for sky
Therefore effectively you are not going to buy at SD which most fans have been avoiding for years anyway
Give it a rest were all sick at tonight’s developments anyway

I’m saying the same things as plenty of others and in no way have I gloated. I’m devastated, but highly motivated to never be put through this again for nothing.

We need to make sure Ashley sells up now.

If we can force him to drop his price, even better.

    He has to go asap.

One thing to clarify in all this mess (and plenty more to follow), Amanda Staveley insists “there is absolutely no issue with Mike Ashley here. There was no argument with Mike and I. We get on very well. We had a deal agreed.”

    Issues from both sides.

    PIF
Suing the main sponsors of the Premier League during a takeover (insane)
    Illegal streaming PL matches (insane)
Then banning PL matches being screened at all in Saudi Arabia (killed the deal)
They should have let Staveley and Reubens buy the club and then come in later as shareholders. (would have been approved in 3 weeks)

    Premiere League/ Ashley
Never wanted the takeover to go through

6 Clubs voted to block the takeover. According to reports it was not the ‘top six’ as the clubs included Wolves, West Ham and Everton. Manure did not vote to block it which is surprising.

Richard Masters used the high profile takeover to further his own ego and stature in the PL where he remains an unpopular choice to lead.

Ashley leaked the Mauriss connection to speed up the process

Ashley asked for more money from the Saudi’s last week (3 journalists have confirmed this already)

    Future
Staveley came to the PL with questionable owners before and it sailed through (Man City) but Masters wasn’t there then. So she never thought this would get blocked. PL have turned a blind eye lots of times.

Reubens are keen to get the building contracts for the club.

Staveley will join forces with new investors and come back.

Masters will be fired at the end of next season.

Saudi’s will buy Marseille to compete directly with PSG.

Newcastle under Ashley and Bruce will 100% be relegated next season.

From the consortium’s point of view, no blame whatsoever is attached to Ashley or Newcastle for what’s happened (or not happened) today. “The reason the deal failed is because of the Premier League,” they say. #NUFC

The disbelief of it happening by certain quarters and that’s not just on here, was the whole problem because it served to dampen the spirits of folk who really wanted it to happen, see change for the better at the club.

What a shitty day. So much so that i’m not even going to try and hide the word shit.

I am confused though; who has pulled out of the deal? Have the Saudi’s pulled out forcing Stavely/Reubens to issue the statement? I’ve read that the Saudi’s blindsided the rest of them with it? There’s so much raw emotion being put out there that filtering the wheat from the chaff is quite hard.

JohnJ, Tinman, enjoyed your sensible comments over the last few weeks, Mund also enjoyed your full blooded enthusiasm as well, what can we do next, hope for Stavely to resurrect the t/o or a new investor to come along, at this moment I don’t believe a word of any media as they have screwed us big time both mentally and killed our only dreams. If it stays status quo, there is only one way we are going, we need some kind of influence or change from somewhere. A penny for your thoughts…….
