Keith Downie with Sky Sports is sharing the news we all did not want to hear. The takeover is now off as the consortium has formally withdrawn it’s bid to purchase Newcastle United.
BREAKING: The Saudi-backed consortium led by Amanda Staveley has formally withdrawn it’s bid to buy Newcastle United. They say the amount of time the takeover has taken, coupled by global uncertainty, has forced them to pull out of the deal #NUFCTakeover
— Keith Downie (@SkySports_Keith) July 30, 2020
Keith Downie has also tweeted the following statement from the consortium.
PCP/PIF Saudi: “We feel great compassion for the Newcastle United fans with whom we shared a great commitment to help. We would like to say that we truly appreciated your incredible expressions of support and your patience throughout this process. We are sorry it is not to be.”
— Keith Downie (@SkySports_Keith) July 30, 2020
This is of course devastating news for a Newcastle fanbase that has been through so much under Mike Ashley. We can’t help but harbor serious animosity towards the Premier League for allowing this to linger this long while leaving the club in limbo.
Where we go from here, we have no idea.

Comment #122Mund I think the whole separation business was an issue and in hindsight that hatred of KSA for Qatar knows no bounds.
Reality now is that unless we find some money, we are never going to even compete with the likes of Wolves.
Maybe Qatar will buy Leeds now and rub our noses in more.

Comment #123We’ll never get to know that truth which makes this news even worse.
Prem League were probably going to block the takeover after opposition and pressure from everyone excluding Nufc fans and told them to pull out in order to save face.

Comment #124I must say it’s the end of the road for me to lads. Not good for ones health having anything to do with this club. It is really and truly cursed, what in the name of God ever happened to this club. Bobby Robson must be turning in his grave.

Comment #125So because the PL never had any plan on making a decision they have had to pull out… So now because of the PL we are stuck with a owner who wants out so isn’t going to spend money.. So the PL have royalty screwed us.. Why the hell can’t the PL be held accountable for this

Comment #126Tsunki, get over yourself. You never wanted a takeover by MBS and Co because of the human rights issue. You made your thoughts on him fully clear.
If you were chocolate you’d eat yourself.
Maybe Rob Leenio will “apologise” to you as requested.
Suggest you ask him again. maybe tonight if he is working now. You can feel even better then.

Reading the PIF statement though- does nobody else think it reads like:
– Prem dragged it out long enough for agreement to lapse
…..which makes me wonder if Ashley tried to get more using the good old “someone else is interested” tactic.
Will they come back in for us next year??

As I said from the start, I won’t ever take anything from the media as fact. It wouldn’t have been the first nor the biggest media farce by a long way, and a massive amount of what we were told along the way was now clearly untrue.
We were promised countless deadlines for decisions by many journalists, told it was already signed off with managers and players ready to announce by others, told it couldn’t possibly fail by a substantial number; the lies were endless.

Comment #132I think it’s a total kop out to blame the premier league to be honest. Unless of course you know the full facts, which nobody does. It’s been all rumours and speculation throughout.
Plus the global uncertainty has absolutely fcuk all to do with the premier league.
It’s always better to believe absolutely nowt until it happens.

Comment #134Sorry Amanda. Why didn’t you get the piracy issue sorted. You are meant to be bright. Clearly the Saudis didn’t want to compensate for the piracy with a country they despise. If they had done they’d have had the keys months ago. The economic environment has also played a part. I just hope that they don’t buy any other club as that would be too much.

Comment #135Is that another 17m into the transfer kitty from deposit lost?
I’m kinda hoping that the PL have to rebuild their brand all over the world, I was as passionate a football fan there was pre covid and in all honesty lost most of the love I had left for it when it started again no fans… The world isn’t going to economically recover from this for years, the next set of broadcast rights will be nowhere near what they are now, and by pissing off the Saudis they will have lost a big bidder for rights!
Glad it’s over, now to get bored to years with the Mauriss saga that is inevitably going to play out now.

Comment #138Although it pains me to say it I don’t think this is the PL’s fault.
The piracy issue WAS a big issue – and unfortunately SA and MBS have proven many times over that they don’t play by the rules.
I think this has been a case of PIF have blinked first….
I believe the PL have insisted on clarity and a definitive resolution on their terms to the piracy issue and told PIF that, until they get it, there will be no decision. Period.
For whatever reason and motive PIF have decided that not conforming to the PL’s directive and pulling out is a better option than conforming and buying NUFC.
To say I am gutted is an understatement at an infinite level.

Comment #144Saudi saying their “investment thesis could not be sustained” is them trying to extricate themselves from the takeover and blame someone else, I think they knew or had the nod that it wasn’t going to be approved anytime soon so they threw their toys out the pram.

Comment #145I wouldn’t have cared if you just disagreed Munster but promoting i would celebrate a failed takeover was bang out if form as an outright lie. You shot your bolt and haven’t the grace to concede it.
I escape the dilemma of Saudi ownership but at what cost? I wouldn’t want it to fail simply because i might have a conscience problem with it – I don’t decide what the majority have given their blessing. I certainly don’t rejoice, it’s a sad day for the Geordie fans and a real setback. We can only hope things change. They might come back.

When I first read those ostensible Staveley words I thought he had her on the line on his show. Not the case. We’re supposed to take his word for it he’s spoke to her and is relaying the information from a ‘tearful’ Staveley. All part of the circus.

Kevin, thats not the issue. Same to Tsunki.
The issue wasnt about Twitter or Journos.
The issue was that you claimed it was a fakeover, and built your whole premise on that.
You were utterly incorrect. Either that, or you you are on here just winding us up with rubbish “show me the evidence” crap when nobody was in any position to give you “evidence” , except what was going on as commented ny many parties.
You can slag off Ashley all you like to gain buddies, but that doesnt add up to much. We all know what Ashley is.
You’ve wound up the blog on a key issue , constantly looking for attention and you could do with copping the Fc*k on now, to be frank.

Comment #154This has been a poker game between the PL and PIF over the BeIn, BeOut piracy. I have no idea how much money the PL is losing due to this but I’m sure it’s a lot.
The Saudis have clearly made moves to address the piracy, But it is difficult to know if they could be held to this long term. Nor do I know whether the PL thought they could wring more concessions from them. But as it stands the Saudis have gone.
What I would like to see is whether the Saudis allow the piracy to resume. Dubai Mick keep us updated? If they do then they are most probably gone for good. If not then they might yet reappear as bidders.
The PL CEO must be worried. If the Saudis depart and resume piracy then the PL will be out of pocket as compared to where they would have been if they had struck a deal that stopped it.
