Early this month, there was a report that Schalke midfielder Weston McKennie was open to leaving the Bundesliga club this summer. He was reportedly keen on a move to the Premier League which was described as a dream move.
NBC Sports is reporting that the young American remains keen on testing himself in England and lists Newcastle as one of several EPL clubs with interest.
Early reports had Everton and Newcastle as admirers of the 21-year-old while the lastest report adds Southampton, Leicester City, and even Liverpool and Chelsea to the mix.
NBC Sports claims Schalke would ask for at least £20m for McKennie, who signed a new contract last summer to 2024.
American journalist Kristian Dyer (Sports Illustrated) has tweeted that a source tells him Newcastle are a club to watch in regards to McKennie. He cites a transfer fee of £23m.
Hearing from a source that one club to watch this summer with @WMckennie is Newcastle.
Evaluation from Schalke is $30 million.

However, with Newcastle having a budget of around £30-35m plus any amount from outgoings, we can’t see them splashing that much cash on the midfielder. Especially, when getting in a striker who can put the ball in the back of the net is the priority.
McKennie joined Schalke in 2017 from the Dallas Academy. He has 91 appearances for the German club with 5 goals and 7 assists. He’s also been a full United States international for the past three years with 19 caps and 6 goals.
