The Premier League Didn’t Do Their Job – They Just Sat On The Fence And Hoped The Takeover Would Go Away

Amanda Staveley and the consortium she put together were going to give Steve Bruce a season to show what he could do at Newcastle when some investment was made into the playing side of the club.

That’s some of the news that has come out of the disaster yesterday, it was around 4:00pm when it was announced that the Saudi PIF had decided to pull out of the deal.

Something some journalists had reported would never happen.

But we think what happened was the Premier League CEO Richard Masters said to them they were simply not going to make a decision on the takeover and this thing would drag on and on and he persuaded them to withdraw.

That got the Premier League and Rochard Masters out of a hole they had so carefully dug for themselves since they received the takeover papers on April 9th.

Richard Masters – the weak and timid Premier League CEO

Iy now looks like they never wanted to OK the deal from the start, and they were looking for some way to specifically turn it down.

When they couldn’t find that they sat on the fence and wouldn’t make a decision, something they should not have been allowed to do.

We wonder if another big buyer comes in for Newcastle what they will find wrong with the new deal, or whether they will just take the same tact and not make any decision.

It’s really a disgrace what the Premier League have done, and Ms. Stavley tells us the top Premier League clubs were against the takeover from the start.

That’s simply because we would be a real danger to all that money they were making in Europe every single season.

And a revitalized Newcastle United, with our mad=gnificent fan base, would very soon become a power to be reckoned with in European football.

But CEO Richard Masters caved to those clubs and other pressures, and notice we didn’t get any reason(s) why the deal was not passed, after being almost four months in their owners’ and directors’ test.

It’s worked out perfectly for Masters and his cronies.

But woe betide him if we have another bid into the owners’ ad directors’ test and the tries to do the same thing.

There should be an independent investigation as to why the Staveley bid did now pass the owners’ and directors’ test – where specifically did it fail.

And what clubs were pressuring Masters to say no?

The Premier League have gone way down in our estimation and Masters is simply a puppet to the big clubs.

They must think he’s an excellent CEO – protecting what’s becoming a monopoly for them in Europe.

And yes, we must move on – once the hurt and even more dashed hopes diminish.

Statement from Lee Charnley: “We acknowledge yesterday’s statement. Never say never, but to be clear Mike Ashley is 100% committed to this deal (sale). However our current focus must now be on supporting Steve Bruce in the transfer market and on the preparations for the new season.”

Right, so the first time ever in the list of takeovers, someone at the club acknowledges one. More to the point, they’ve expressed their desire to conclude the deal. A theme coming out here in the statements…

Also, notice he said “this deal” – not a deal, any deal or just plain committed to selling. THIS DEAL.

Quite clear that it’s the lack of decision from the league that has f’ed this up. It’s such a shame, think of the boost to the economy that the Saudi investment would’ve brought to the NorthEast. It’s just devastating, it’s about so much more than the footbal club

Of course we used to be in that elite group, way before ManCity, Chelsea or Spurs. We just fell out of it at the wrong time. Poor decision making for years and then Ashley. Staveley was a chance for the club to be a well run one, but now we’re back to square one. We need facts and answers. Why couldn’t they approve it and why couldn’t they accept the PIF governor as a director. RIP up the NDAs and let’s have the truth. We are at least owed that.

Someone said yesterday this was a clever ‘brinkmanship’ move by PIF because while it was going on they couldn’t expose what the PL was upto.

But now they can, and Masters will be getting a lot of abuse from the government. If Saudi’s pull the plug on UK investment during pandemic that takes $65 billion out of our economy. Yes they have previously pledged to invest $65 billion in UK companies.

    Masters is history.

    This is not over.

10,000 nufc fans outside PL HQ or Masters home banging drums and screaming for answers might make the PL stand up and take notice, questions maybe be asked higher up then.

any KBA driven statement has every word chosen for a reason.

why would they bother putting in “never say never”? If it was done and dusted and we must move on, those words wouldnt be included.

Imo we need to give this a few days for the dust to settle and see what comes, i genuinely dont think all 3 partners have walked away just yet.

This would be easier to accept if there was a reason or they failed to meet any of the criteria of the fit and proper test. It can only be because the top six don’t want competition. If they passed the criteria they should be allowed. Maybe the Premier league can make a law if you’re playing Spurs or Man City you have to let them win because they don’t like losing. That would make it a great sport.

If the FA have a problem with rich owners they should kick Chelsea and Man City out. Or at least have the guts to punish Man City for cheating with a relegation.

If anything, after that from the clubs mouthpiece, this is just getting started.

Ashley wants to sell, only one buyer with money at the door wanting to purchase. The obstacle is the PL and the shit show clubs pulling the strings.

Could be the withdrawal from the purchase isn’t a withdrawal from the agreement with Ashley; the deposit is safe, the agreement still in place just a withdrawal from the PL process. Free from that process, buyers and sellers can speak freely now without breaking ‘confidentiality’ which has been the shield the PL have hidden behind.

Staveleys’ comments last night could border on libellous and the only reason she would come out with that is if she could challenge any claim against her. Someone on twitter said Tuesday PIF got sight of a PL document that really pissed them off. Love to know what it is. Remember, KSA has its own intelligence agency 🙂 Kid gloves are off.

10 clubs piled pressure on to block this. That is half of the league. Spurs and Liverpool were the two biggest opponents. Liverpool have waited 30 years to get to the top again, they don’t want to shoved out of the way by us. Spurs have always hated us.

I suspect the folk most wrong – footed by yesterdays announcement
    are the PL themselves.
If , as someone claims , there are leaked documents that put Masters and the PL in a bad light , the Saudis are now free to publish them.

Well. It just gets stranger. Some thoughts:

Eight pointed star If MA is committed to the PiF deal, it suggests some collusion with AS, PiF & RBs
Eight pointed star MA may test the EPL legally for his right to sell to the consortium
Eight pointed star This allows KSA to test without losing face.

That is exactly what yesterday was about. Pull out so they can all expose what the PL have been saying and doing to illustrate their corruption in the process.

PIF just wanted to be treated fairly and equally in the process as others had been in the past. But Masters, new to the job, had other ideas.
