After Takeover Disappointment, Newcastle Need To Keep This Magpie On Tyneside

With the sad news of the takeover’s demise still setting in for many fans, the focus is now shifting toward next season where we’ll likely find it hard to make to much improvement on our 13th place finish.

Without the injection of Saudi riches and the damage the coronavirus has wreaked on club finances, Newcastle will have limited funds to make the necessary improvements in the squad.

Much of the reported £30m or so should be used to get in a couple of strikers as that’s the pressing issue that needs to be sorted. So that will leave little for other areas of need like the midfield and at left-back.

Newcastle are reported to be in negotiations for two free agents in midfielder Arnaud Lusamba and winger Ryan Fraser. Both would be good additions in the current climate.

There’s also Danny Rose, who Steve Bruce is keen to get back on a permanent deal after his half-season loan spell.

There was a report yesterday from Sport Witness who cite a German outlet that Schalke’s hopes of selling Nabil Bentaleb took a hit due to the takeover failure. However, we would think the opposite to be the case.

Whether Newcastle still want to pursue Bentaleb on anything other than another loan deal seems highly unlikely to us.

That leaves the situation with Matty Longstaff. Newcastle must redouble their efforts to keep the youngster at the club. His options are likely to be plentiful as he’ll be a very good bargain for some clubs with limited budgets.

There are reports West Ham, Southampton, and Burnley are monitoring his situation along with interest from Udinese in Serie A.

It would raise some spirits on Tyneside if Newcastle can convince Matty to sign a long term deal.

The ref wanted Arsenal to win that game
Manu was helped into the CL
Villa avoided the drop due to “technical” problems and blind refs and linesmen

Why isnt the Russian state a director of Chelsea ?

Its a condition they used to guarantee a non sale
They dragged out a 3/4 week process for 4/5 months

I seriously doubt it would have taken that long if they were buying Villa

If a state were named as a director they could use the rules of the test to investigate the entire country

Its comical to even ask it

I’m inclined to agree that they would’ve rejected the Saudis either way. Their stance on piracy was always going to be highly problematic and of paramount concern to them. Being able to sell the brand around the world will always be a top priority for the prem bosses and the Saudis have taken steps that ultinately harm the PL brand.

I’m a little confused by your last comment. Why would it be impossible to name a country as a director? And if that were the case and it is impossible, why would the PL have asked them to do it in the first place?

I can’t see any reason to reject it aside from fears that the PL would then demand access to the same information KSA has been trying to block Qatar on regarding piracy.

Hi Magicmac, OK, so I will guess we are similarly informed by western media on such things as sexism, homophobia, secret services murdering people. That list could pretty much be applied to every country in the world. As for the death penalty, that is less common but they are in no way unique. Cutting off the hand of a thief, I’ve heard it, is it common?
Does KV deserve to go on a domestic terrorist watch list because he dressed up as a tree and fell asleep outside a bank?
Have you heard about the battle of the bean fields?
By the way I am not condoning these things, just pointing put that KSA are not alone in this?

    The ledge,

Man City are owned by one of Sheikh Mansour’s private investment companies, not the UAE public investment fund. Not sure on PSG and I’m not familiar with Ligue 1’s ownership rules but that decision didn’t really have anything to do with the PL.

    It stinks of corruption
They decided well before the fit and proper test what the outcome was
It needs the government to step in and investigate the people involved
They are neck deep in international politics it seems

Maybe our secret services can shed some light on a corrupt national “sport”

The one thing i will say is the premier league would not want Newcastle United to have great financial clout there is simply no doubt about that, even as an Newcastle fan living in Ireland i can clearly see the North South divide in England, they dont want any team from the north east of England to threaten thier we cosy clubs, as far as they are concerned Newcastle is just a we out post in the North East corner of England, just like the government they dont give a toss about Newcastle United or the Geordie nation, so sad but true. DO NOT feel guilty for wanting the Saudi’s to take over our team as much as any outsider wants you to

You are a fan of NUFC because you hold the interests of our club to your own highest of standards

It does not make you a non-fan because you expect more from the input compared to the results of the output

I just don’t see this as a corruption issue.

The Saudis banned PL broadcasts, which harms revenue streams for the entire league and damages every club financially.

How coukd they possibly have allowed the Saudis to buy in at that point?

I don’t see how that is corruption. It’s how every business works. If you know somebody is stealing from or otherwise harming your business, you will try to shut them down.

The way I understand it, KSA were trying to name somebody who wasn’t implicated in the piracy issues as theur candidate, and the PL were unhappy with this so they tried to give the Saudis the opportunity to change their minds.

How the Saudis thought they could avoid being tested is beyond me. The purchase was being made by their sovereign wealth fund. It’s inseperable from the state. The only reason I can see to try to create the illusion of seperation is to try to circumvent the piracy issue, which the PL weren’t going to permit.

I personally don’t think this is over. The pulling out statement opened the opportunity to expose some of what went on with the PL discussions and show how no OD test criteria were failed and every effort was made to answer all questions and even provide financial security in terms of renewing the MENA TV deal at current overpriced rates.
Let’s face it, you’ve got more chance of finding a full set of teeth in Sunderland than finding an ethical billionaire.

Chancel be a fine thing, Chancel i agree with your reply, the so called great democratic countries of this world are not exactly pure and as white as snow, and many of them have blood on thier hands also, Chancel after the last takeover failed i was gutted simply gutted, and i vowed i would never listen to any media or journalist ever again, i believed this takeover was the real thing, but when it got to about 7 weeks and nothing had progressed i was very very sceptical about this one also as you will probably have noticed if you had seen any of my posts Chancel.
