On Friday, news emerged from Italy that Sassuolo left-back Rogerio had resurfaced as a Newcastle target this summer. Back in January 2019, there were multiple reports that Newcastle were negotiating to bring the Brazilian to Tyneside.
Nothing ever came from those reports and Rogerio eventually made his move to Sassuolo permanent last summer for a fee of £5m after spending two seasons on loan. He had been at the Juventus Academy since 2016 but never made a first-team appearance for the Turin giants.
After suffering a knee injury that sidelined him until December, Rogerio slowly returned to have a decent second of this season which has reportedly brought him back into Newcastle’s sights.
Sky Sports Italy is now backing these recent claims, originally made by Calcio Mercato. Maybe there’s something to these links to the 22-year-old.
He could be seen as a younger cheaper option with the Saudi takeover collapsing last week. While Steve Bruce is keen on bringing Danny Rose back this summer, his wages could prove an obstacle in the post-coronavirus economy.
There’s also Jetro Willems who is recovering from the knee injury he suffered in January. Willems could also be available for another loan spell with an option to buy.
He still has Newcastle on his mind as he recently tweeted the following about earning a place on a Premier League Newcomer of the Season team.
Hhmm not bad? for only 19 games? pic.twitter.com/eaALG27rUD

We’d be thrilled if Newcastle brought Jetro back for next season. It would also be good for the fans since the Dutchman was such a popular player in the first half of the season.
He is quite very versatile as he can play up the pitch and provide cover in the midfield as well. Hopefully, Willems is still an option for Steve Bruce.
We’ll also need to bring in another left-back in addition to Jetro with just Paul Dummett on the books. Long-term target Rogerio could be the one who fits the bill.

Comment #5I think they actually got 18 penalties toon22. A few dodgy ones for sure.
But I think signing Bruno Fernandes in January probably had more to do with the third place finish than the fa did.

Comment #6Please not somebody with a long history of injuries. With Dummett missing such a large chunk of last season we should go into the new one anticipating a possible relapse. I’d want us to go in with a decent first choice LB without a long history of injuries, and 2 other options for cover there ideally.

I watched a video of all 14 and the vast majority were very clear-cut.
There were maybe 3 that were questionable, but even then it was more a question of the player going down a little too easily, rather than it being a dive.
I didn’t look at any of them and think “that clearly wasn’t a pen”.

If piracy was a non issue as stated by Staveley, them why couldn’t the PL accept the PIF as the ultimate owner instead of the State. And they had a written document to prove it. It all hangs on this.

Comment #24Because the pl wanted piracy to be an issue …. Couldn’t be when pif were owners could possibly be linked if Saudi state were owners (as per WTO report) prem moving goalposts to please their Qatar I benefactors methinks. Also all states have committed crimes or what could be considered crimes in other countries so all coulf be excluded as being named as outright club owners as per owners test.

Comment #27To be honest, to me it doesn’t matter who we sign or don’t sign. If Bruce is still head coach and Ashley is still the owner next season nothing football related matters to me. I’m not a football fan I’m a Newcastle United fan and that club doesn’t exist unless and until the ownership changes. I’ll not go to a game. I’ll not watch on TV. I’ll not even be that bothered to look at the results. I accept fully everyone else has a complete right to react differently to the ownership but, for me, football’s on hold.

Kevin posted;
“The way I understand it, KSA were trying to name somebody who wasn’t implicated in the piracy issues as theur candidate, and the PL were unhappy with this so they tried to give the Saudis the opportunity to change their minds.”
Please, please where did you find this very important, and critical nugget of ‘Truth’?
