Ashley Will Not Be Strung Along In Latest Takeover Attempt

In the wake of the Saudis pulling out of their bid to buy Newcastle last week, reports of American businessman Henry Mauriss’s interests in the club began to ramp up.

It had been rumored that the Clear TV CEO was waiting in the wings to launch a bid for Newcastle if the Premier League blocked the Saudi takeover attempt. The league’s neverending delay amounted to such a result as the Saudis ultimately felt forced to back out of the deal.

Yesterday, there was a report that Mike Ashley had given Mauriss a two-week ultimatum to reach an agreement on the sale of the club.

Scott Wilson, with The Northern Echo is today adding some insight into what Mike Ashley may be asking of Mauriss.

According to Wilson, Ashley will accept the same terms as was agreed with Amanda Staveley. This was initially thought to be £300m however, Staveley and her husband, Mehrdad Ghodoussi, confirmed in an interview last week that Ashley had raised the stakes a bit.

Mike Ashley is still waiting for the Mauriss group to provide proof of funds as well as paying a non-refundable deposit. The Staveley group paid a reported £17m which Ashley presumably has pocketed with the Saudis pulling out.

This latest takeover saga has a lot of hints of BZG, Peter Kenyon, and GACP Sports’ Joseph DaGrosa, where funds look like they could be the ultimate stumbling block. While sources say Mauriss has the cash to do the deal, there’s no tangible evidence of that.

Mike Ashley will be very wary of being strung along as he claims he has been in the past. So this latest takeover attempt may not last very long. Ashley will not be in the mood for another drawn-out affair.

Either Mauriss has the funds and is interested, or he doesn’t. Hopefully, we’ll find out the answer within the next week or two.

Note – here’s a petition to sign to get an independent review of the EPL Takeover process – please sign it – thanks.

Yeah i know change.org isnt ideal tbh and getting people to re-sign the govt one in the future will be tough but its the hand we are dealt right now.

    Cheers Jib.

Surely Ashley will want answers off the PL? They’ve just cost him millions.

Thanks mate, so even if it is tomorrow or later, everyone of us who signed the change one can also sign that one as well, would mean 2 petitions going forward of 56000+ signatures. lets hope both can top 100000. If we can get over 56000 after 3 days or so, sure can top the 100000 mark and if it happens on 2, even better.

It may be worthwhile contacting the Independent Football Ombudsman (IFO)

The IFO “has been established by the football authorities (The Football Association, The Premier League, and The English Football League), to investigate complaints that have not been resolved by these bodies”

    google theifo
