Last week, Sassuolo left-back Rogerio resurfaced as a potential target for Newcastle. The 22-year-old was heavily linked with a move in Rafa Benitez’s final season on Tyneside.
The Brazilian would likely be an affordable addition which is unfortunately what Newcastle are forced to be in the hunt for this summer. If accurate, Rogerio could be seen as an alternative to Danny Rose, who had a decent half-season loan spell on Tyneside.
Steve Bruce is keen to bring the 30-year-old back to Newcastle next season. However, with Rose having just one year remaining on his contract, Spurs will want to offload the Englishman permanently, so another loan spell looks unlikely.
Bruce will face some competition for Danny as Leeds Live has a report claiming that the newly-promoted Leeds United are ready to battle Newcastle for his signature.
They also claim that Tottenham could be willing to let the left-back leave on a free. This news comes from the Mail on Sunday which TBR has done a report on.
One reason Spurs could be willing to let Rose leave for nothing is to offset his wage demands. He’ll want to stay on his reported £65,000-a-week wages and probably sign a deal of at least three years.
That may not be in Newcastle’s best interest, as while did a decent job on loan, it’s apparent his best days are behind him. Rose is a former Leeds Academy product having left the club for Tottenham in 2007 so he may find a move to Elland Road enticing.
Either way, Newcastle have to strengthen the left-back position this summer. It could take two signings to do that with just Paul Dummett with experience in the role.
Note – here’s a petition to sign to get an independent review of the EPL Takeover process – please sign it – thanks.

Comment #4Have to hope we don’t end up with worse than Ashley. And yes that’s possible. I got 3 more signatures :). But if the Saudis have walked away from the bid, this is all a waste of time.

Comment #5Saudis were only hope we had to dominate world football.
Now we can only hope to be like an Everton who will spend more than Ashley

Comment #6Just get Rogerio and Willems in. Shouldn’t even be trying to buy Danny Rose. He’s no good. Too slow and casual. Doesn’t get forward enough. Commits too many fouls and makes loads of mistakes. Overrated bloke.

Do you not understand why we are doing this? It’s not about resurrecting the real.
This is about showing who the premier league really are, can you really go back normally to football knowing what you know?
We need to fight for the game and how it’s ended a corrupt incompetent lot

Comment #17Its obvious the PL don`t give 2 hoots about our club or it`s fans, this last takeover proves it.
They sat on their hands knowing they had no intention of passing it, and by doing so, showed total disrespect to everyone involved at the club, and its supporters.
I signed the petition but i know full well it will make no difference, is that being defeatist, NO, its being realistic.
If people are that upset about the PL, then withdraw your Sky Sports package.
If you want Ashley out, do not buy a ST .

Comment #18Mund I’ve got people signed up. But we wudnt be doing this if it hadn’t been about nufc, don’t be kidding me. If Leeds weren’t bought by Qatar, would we be lobbying? Nope. Foe nufc, we needed he Saudis to stick with it, not walk away leaving the PL off the hook. A few have told me to f off as they didn’t want the Saudis near the prem league due to human rights against gays etc but I think I have possibly 15 – 20 signed up. 🙂
