Last summer Liverpool winger Harry Wilson was touted as a top target for Newcastle. He had come off a tremendous season on loan at Derby in the Championship where he scored 18 goals.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp seemed hesitant to sell Wilson despite him having little chance of playing much at Anfield. Ultimately, Klopp sanctioned a loan deal for the Welsh international.
It was Bournemouth, who had just been rocked by a serious ankle injury to David Brooks, that won the race for the promising right-winger.
One year later, after a season of mixed results at the Vitality Stadium, it seems Klopp could be more open to selling Wilson. And according to The Sun, Steve Bruce is still a big admirer of the 23-year-old.
The report claims that Leeds are lining up a £15m bid for Wilson but face competition from Aston Villa and Newcastle. Last year, Wilson’s valuation was around the £30m mark but Liverpool will likely struggle to get that much in this economic climate.
There’s also the possibility that Liverpool could send Wilson back out on loan once again to see if he can improve upon last season’s displays. He started off well enough with 6 goals through the end of November, including one against Newcastle at St James Park.
However, the goals and starts began to dry up after that for whatever reason. Wilson scored just once more and was handed only one start after the league resumed. That’s despite starting four straight before the season was suspended. So maybe the lockdown had an adverse effect on the young winger.
To be fair, all of Bournemouth’s stars saw a drastic dip in their performances last season. Callum Wilson and Josh King saw their goal output halved from the season before while winger Ryan Fraser was a shell of himself.
So maybe that can be taken into account when examining Wilson’s season at Bournemouth. He is an other-worldly dead ball specialist who would instantly improve Newcastle’s set-pieces. However, he does need to improve the other aspects of his game.
We think Wilson would be a decent shout on a season-long loan. However, any significant outlay on a permanent transfer may not be wise this summer with such a pressing needs in other areas of the pitch.
Note – here’s a petition to sign to get an independent review of the EPL Takeover process – please sign it – thanks.

Comment #2Transfer talk about decent players coming here, especially if other clubs are interested, is as pointless as any future features on takeovers.

Comment #9Jib, Artys post, I did not see it as abusive in any form, nit-picking, lets see if you can set out an opinion in some form of protest that would be as perfect as the one Arty has articulated.
