All signs point to Newcastle having landed free agent midfielder Jeff Hendrick with an announcement expected imminently. Though it’s gone a bit quiet over the past few days after reports emerged claiming that the 28-year-old had passed his medical.
There is a claim out of Turkey that Besiktas have made a late move for the midfielder due to the erratic performances of Serbian international Adem Ljajic.
Be?ikta?'ta teknik direktör Sergen Yalç?n, Adem Ljajic’in ini?li ç?k??l? performans? nedeniyle yönetimden 10 numara istemi?ti. Son olarak Burnley'de forma giyen ve sözle?mesi sona eren Jeff Hendrick için dü?meye bas?ld?! (@OfficialOrhan69)

The previous tweet roughly translates to:
Besiktas manager Sergen Yalcin has asked for a number 10 due to the uneven performances of Adem Ljajic. Finally, the button has been pressed for Jeff Hendrick, formerly of Burnley, and now a free agent.
However, Besiktas has had financial trouble for years and the Turkish league was hit hard by the coronavirus. So we can’t see Besiktas offering Hendrick a deal comparable to what Newcastle will have on the table.
Hopefully, Newcastle will announce Hendrick soon as it has dragged on somewhat if his medical was completed midweek. The initial reports were that there were a few rudimentary issues to tie up before it would be officially finalized.
Steve Bruce will want to integrate his new signing into the squad as quickly as possible. Getting Hendrick to join the lads for the latter part of training camp would help him do that.
Newcastle will take on Crewe Alexandra in their first pre-season friendly on Tuesday. It would be great to have Hendrick in the fold by then.
Here is a new petition for Premier League transparency from MP Chi Onwurah that she will present when Parliament returns.

Steve Bruce confirms to @SkySportsNews from NUFC training base in York that Jeff Hendrick deal “practically done, he’ll provide valuable experience in midfield.”

In a direct message to NUFC fans concerned about potential lack of signings: “Make no mistake, there will be 2, 3 or 4 new faces through the door before we start back. We need to replace the 3 loan players, we’ve brought in Hendrick – and we have one or two things bubbling away.”

Comment #11Its all well and good packing our midfield with players . Looks like Matty will resign and Hendrick looks a useful free addition BUT Brucie needs to find someone with goal scoring pedigree and fast or we will be in yet another relegation battle this coming season. Forget looking at another CB. Smalling is pants and at £20m is probably about £19M over priced.

We must have offered him more than Burnley did or he’d still be there. I wouldn’t be surprised if the hold up was due to his trying to find another club.

Smalling has had a fantastic season in Serie A even earning the nickname Smalldini. He made the Team of the Season.
I would rate him as a great signing.
Priority remains a striker, a left back and another option to contest with ASM/Almiron.

Very underwhelmed. Have watched him countless times for Ireland and he’s been inconsistent. Largely has had no impact in games.
That said, he had a fantastic season 2 or 3 years ago playing in the number 10 role and has been pushed out wide last season. Potentially could prove to be a ‘Sibierski’ signing.

Comment #21Wonderful – we aim to get ‘2,3 or 4 new players in’.
Seeing if we sign Hendrick and we’ve already got our third choice keeper that will be the two I take it? Two free agents.
Boy we know how to work the market!
