It looks like Mike Ashley will take a different tack to sell Newcastle.
The Chronicle is reporting today that a buyer who he thinks is just in for the publicity, with no real intention of buying Newcastle, or without the money to buy the club, will get short shrift.
And he seems ready to end negotiations with the latest would-be buyers – the Bellagraph Nova Group and Henry Mauriss.
The BN group seem to be little short of a joke, and what they are doing must be for the publicity: so the sooner Ashley pulls the plug on them the better.
They claimed to have bid £280M for the club and have not increased their offer.
But the Paris-based continue to say they are trying to buy the club, and that they are keeping quiet about it, because of Mike Ashley’s wish not to have the takeover attempts blazed across the papers.
Mike Ashley – to take different tack to sell the club
There’s a mismatch here – and we believe Mike Ashley in this case,
The Henry Mauriss bid, or should we say no-bid, is really disappointing.
That’s because he had verbally agreed with Ashley to buy the club for £340M and wanted to run it like the FSG have run Liverpool, or so he said,
But when the Saudi-based bid, led by Ms. Staveley, floundered, he didn’t follow through with any official bid.
Ashley is said to be looking for new buyers and we hope that’s true, and that he keeps the club on the market,
It’s in his own best interests to make sure Newcastle are not struggling against relegation this season, so that buyers will not be put off.
And yes – we said that same thing one year ago, so we haven’t moved forward at all.
Little mention in the Chronicle report of the Saudi-funded bid, other than Ashley wanted the group to give the Premier League all they wanted, to get over the ownership issue.
But they may have already done that, or as far as they are willing to go, before the collapse.
Ashley still wants to sell as he has said, since around October 2017.
But we have lost the golden opportunity of being owned by those who have the same ambitions as the fans and the money to follow through on those ambitions.
That is to make Newcastle into one of the best clubs and best teams in the world.
🙁
But we suppose there’s always hope, which we’ve been saying for many years now.
Here is a new petition for Premier League transparency from MP Chi Onwurah that she will present when Parliament returns.

Comment #4We are going down, difference is, i don’t think we will bounce straight back up.
I hope Ashley loses all his money as his gamble on bricks and mortar doesnt pay off or he gets prison time for fraud.

Comment #11Saddest thing in all of this, our fan base is truly amazing and we are the ones to suffer.
A decent left back – should of taken the hearts youngster, will be the next Robertson
A decent striker – Watkins would cut it in the prem
We would be comfortable.
We will finish in the bottom 3. Bruce is a shower of sh1te, nuce guy though….

Comment #12Every season is a risk of going back down, triggering a 4 year cycle of promotion (if we’re lucky) and then maintaining a safe position in the PL, at least safe enough to attract a buyer willing to punt £300m plus on a club that is permanently sailing in dangerous waters. At some point soon Ashley’s luck will run out and we’ll go down, meaning no chance of a sale for at least 4 years. I fear that chance has now gone, unless the PIF consortium are still working on this. And we are all getting older! And the younger generation will have their heads turned by the scousers and Mancs. It’s like a living death.

Excl: Newcastle close to signing Rob Holding from Arsenal on season loan. Lot of interest in 24yo CB but #NUFC winning race. Quarantine/injuries mean set to play #CommunityShield before finalising move. Unlikely to include option to buy @TheAthleticUK

Comment #17If we are signing a centre back on loan with no option to buy would surely mean we are shifting off 2 CBs? Strange….
Please bring in a striker 20-30mil just as Leeds have

Comment #18Rumours are we are signing Moussa Margega and ASM agent has told NUFC to triple his wages or he is out. Bruce told him to put in a transfer. Also ASM has fallen out with players after crashing his car into theirs and is refusing to pay for repairs. Players are complaining about his attitude and being disruptive.
These are only a couple of things being spouted on twitter. You can tell it’s Saturday.

Comment #19If Ornstein is reporting that, I’d say it’s pretty much nailed on then.
Holding isn’t a bad defender, I know the Arsenal fans were really disappointed when he picked up that bad injury but he’s not particularly better than anyone we have and like all of our CB’s he severely lacks any real pace. We’re always so vulnerable to quick counters and balls over the top as we’ve got no one with the pace to properly recover.

Comment #20Afternoon all 🙂 how’s everyone?
Just got back and the lads team got beat but my lad got MOTM. I knew he was playing all week at the back of a diamond so I’ve been drilling him on positional sense in defence and a few other tips and he was immense. He was the only player the full game who held his position. Did a few unreal slide tackles even getting one of his own a few times lol
Couldn’t be prouder than him today he put his body on the line for marks all over him from throwing himself into tackles and blocks, unreal.

Comment #21Batshuayi from Chelsea obviously wants to move on as well as the club to move on. I’m sure that would be an easy £20mil signing for someone who has scored goals already in the Prem

That’s great to hear, well done to your lad. Match Intelligence is so over looked at youth levels so the earlier you start getting that drilled into him, the better. Will serve him well going forward.

I think Holding is for cover across the back four as he can play anywhere across the defence.

Cheers mate.
For me strength on the ball, intelligence and understanding of the game are the 3 most important things to work on when they are young.
He is committed to learn and doesn’t mind doing the hard work which will serve him well. I see him more as a winger as he gets older or could be a quality ball playing defender. I don’t see him being tall but let’s see how the next 5 years treat him and how he develops

I’m sure you’ll see him right. I remember a good interview with someone out of Southamptons academy, when they had Shaw, Chambers and Ward-Prowse all coming through at similar times. Think it might have been Les Reed, he talked a lot about a players intelligence, he targeted kids from predominantly middle class backgrounds as he felt they performed better academically and and had a better match intelligence. It’s one of the key factors in players being selected for their academy.

Exactly that mate and yea it was Les Reed who is a very talented man with youngsters.
Intelligence is huge within youngsters and if any scouts see that in young lads they will keep a very close eye on them as it’s rare in such an age.
I wish I took the team when I was asked as the assistant has not got a scooby doo. As my lad was the only one who kept his position. Tactics and training are essential when your young as you need directions and instructions or they will run wild lol

Definitely, my wife always said I was too disciplined with our boys cause I didn’t just let them run around the pitch like headless chickens.
It got to the point, even when we were watching games I’d be trying to point out things from a tactical point of view to them.
My oldest ended up going towards rugby once he was in his teens but the rest of them have all stuck with football.
