Newcastle Announce The Signing Of Jamal Lewis From Norwich

Newcastle United have announced the signing of left-back Jamal Lewis from Norwich City on a five-year deal.

Here’s a personal message from Jamal himself.

The 22-year-old also said the following about joining Newcastle:

“It was a little bit unexpected but it was something that I was obviously looking forward to when I heard that there was serious interest, so I’m delighted to be here now.

“Newcastle’s such a great club with such history and I knew it was an opportunity I would love to take with both hands.”

Here is what Steve Bruce said about his new left-back.

“Jamal is a very exciting prospect. I watched him flourish in the Championship two years ago and he made a real fist of it in the Premier League last season.

“He is only 22 years old and has a wonderful future ahead of him so I hope he is a Newcastle United full-back for years to come.

“It’s been a great week for us with incoming players. We have had to be patient but these players improve us, which is key.”

This is another piece of outstanding business for Newcastle United. Jamal’s signing brings Steve Bruce’s summer haul to five players.

Left-back was a priority heading into this window and Newcastle have added one of the most promising young full-backs in the Premier League.

The Norwich Academy product made 28 appearances in the Premier League for the Canaries last season. His future looks very bright and we can’t wait to see him flying down the left flank for Newcastle.

    Excellent stuff.

Key positions sorted before a ball has been kicked.

One month left to shift some deadwood and get 1 or 2 more in to bolster the ranks.

5 Players in. 4 of them go straight into the starting line-up. Most have Premier League experience. All for an outlay of under ÂŁ35 million. That is some really shrewd business.

Great to see – really happy with these signings and great to see we’ll be able to watch them actually play this month.

We have made quite possibly the best signings in the league alongside Everton, we have improved the team in every aspect, I won’t be surprised if we add one or 2 more players, and offload some dead wood, 35 million for this load of quality players is quite impressive, I must say, instead of us battling relegation i can see us challenging top 10 with this team if Wilson, fraser, Almiron, and saint maximin can hit the ground running and we get a result from west ham game, we have the basis of a very good team now, and if wilson can get the service he will score a lot of goals for us. absolutely buzzing, HOWAY THE LADS!!!

For me we have always been lacking that pivotal CAM/CM who can dominate midfield and attack and defend with ease. We’ve got one who defends great (Hayden) one who is quick on the attack (Almiron) and one who links the two (Shelvey) but no one player who can do it all.

Not being greedy like , but we need someone in the middle who can pull the strings , I know we’ve got shelvey , but he likes to spray passes about more than thread the ball through

Decent signing, mostly agree with Jamaal Dubravka’s line-up but I’d be tempted with Sean L over Fraser and playing Almiron wide, too start off with at least.

We’ll already be without Dubs, and bringing too many new players in all at once is problematic more often than not.

Get Lewis and Wilson in as they’re the positions we’re nost lacking, leave the rest to settle and introduce them from the bench before throwing them in.

A lot of teams will be afraid to face us now, we have a lot of pace and quality upfront now, with Shelvey and Hayden spraying passes to our quality forwards we will bang in quite a few goals, we have so much pace in this team now, epically with lewis and yedlin overlapping from the back, we have the look of a team i have wanted to see for years, exciting, attacking football.

Joe needs to be played out wide
    Carrol isnt ever fit
We need to see at least one more in

I really like the Hayden——Shelvey combination – clearly defined roles.

Would be a great to have a complete midfielder who can do it all, but not many of them around, who are also available and realisitc. Rodrigo De Paul at ÂŁ30m is the best I can come up with. Leeds were said to be in for him a week ago, but apparently Juve and Napoli now interested in him.

Shelvey was in good form last season and scored 6. With more quality ahead of him now and the carrot of Euro 2021, no reason he can’t have his best season yet.

As many have already said, Hayden’s contract needs to be prioritised once transfer business is done with.

Enjoy it mate and totally agree, lets get Arrons & maybe Holden and sort the back out altogether, just hopefully another forward perhaps on loan and another central midfielder. And also agree with you and Jamal, dont think this is Mikes money, I’m sure someone else is involved in the background

Mentioned weeks ago that , Arron & Holding would be my loan/purchases of the season, really disappointed regarding Holding now not coming, just the type of defender we needed. Never mind, we move on, we,ll buy them both when Amanda & the gang come back…….LOL

Hendrick is more a box to box than Shelvey and offers a lot more Defensively I guess we will see soon enough.

I don’t think any of our new signings will make appearances straight away, they will be eased into the team slowly, I think Wilson will be subbed on after half time to score against the hammers, he tends to score a lot against them, I think Lewis will be starting the game as left-back as we are weak there and Fraser will come on at the same time to assist Wilson for his hattrick ;),

Also, we should go in for Willems as we have a buy out clause in his loan deal I’m sure it was only 6 million or something like that, that’s pennies for a player of his quality, Lewis, Willems, and Dummett at left-back would provide solid cover for those positions.

Max Aarons next and then a young striker on loan or perm deal and I’m happy haha

Norwich have done well keeping Aarons, Godfrey, Buendia and Cantwell so far. If they keep 3 of those 4, I’m sure they’ll come back up.

    Holding still might arrive.

It’s just that both us and Arsenal have a load of CBs to sort through so it’s on hold for the moment.

Any more arrivals I would suggest will be reliant on us shipping a few out.

Got about 35 senior players on the books at the moment.

    No place for Hendrick?
I predict he’ll be a regular starter after a few games!
There’s no excuse for being anywhere near relegation with this squad now!
Something’s going on though! This is not the Ashley of recent seasons!

I must admit a week ago i had us nailed on for relegation, but this has been good business this last week and has exceeded all my expectations, i think we will be ok now and i dont expect a relegation scrap this season, with the squad we have now i think we will be mid table, if we sign anymore that would be a huge bonus perhaps the lad Holding from Arsenal and a back up striker, as a back up striker i would be happy with Troy Deeney, lots of premier league experience, big and strong and bullies defenders, and knows where the nets are, and we could get him on the cheap.

I know, I’m getting greedy and turning into Kets, but if can do something similar to what I’m saying, think a good season ahead. Arrons from Norwich coudl happen as they are going to need some cash, maybe a loan with view to buy and a reasonably high loan fee. The others just hope
