Poll – Who Was Newcastle’s Man Of The Match In Win At West Ham?

Well, where do we start? That was a very solid and professional display by Newcastle United. The team was well set up and looked a continual threat going forward. Kudos to Steve Bruce with his ambitious team selection having two strikers on the pitch away from home.

Callum Wilson’s movement and striker’s instincts made a massive difference from the start of last season. Andy Carroll was a beast all evening and announced as much with a crunching aerial challenge on Tomas Soucek in the first minute of the game.

New boys Jamal Lewis and Jeff Hendrick also had their moments. Lewis worked well with Allan Saint-Maximin down the left flank and put in some excellent deliveries. Hendrick Was a little quiet on the right in the first half but was outstanding in the second with a goal and an assist.

Speaking of Saint-Maximin, it was another electric display from the Frenchman. The Hammers were once again terrorized by the winger. It wasn’t as bad as a year ago when he torched Pablo Zabaleta but Ryan Fredericks did have his hands full.

The defense was disciplined with some excellent displays from our stout duo at the back, Federico Fernandez and Jamaal Lascelles. Javier Manquillo continues his rise from last season. The midfield pairing of Jonjo Shelvey and Isaac Hayden were also once again at the top of their game.

While Karl Darlow wasn’t forced into any dramatics, he gets a clean sheet in his first Premier League match since February of 2018. This was a very promising performance for a team that should only get better as they continue to gel.

Voted for Wilson but could have been any one of about 6 realistically.

    Both CBs were solid
    Manq faultless
Hendrick goal and assist and grew into the second half after a relatively quiet 1st half.
AC did his job, if only he would stay fit.

But for me Wilson gave us something we havent had a for a good while – a proper PL CF with pace, hold up play and being in the right place at the right time in the box.

and finally, well done to Brucey, Im not his biggest fan for sure but this was a perfect performance so fair play to him.

    Wow, bossed it.

Bruce was brave, and got the reward.

Looked a balanced side, players played for each other..

    Good game to watch

Was very impressed with the new signings, Hendrick was always going to be the dark horse of the players brought in, but although he had a quiet first half, came on second half with a good spirit and running, ended with an assist and a goal. Hang your heads in shame toonbrother and Kev the vegan.

Was watching Bowman who a lot of posters wanted to buy when he was sold by Hull, not impressed. Thinks he will regret going to West Ham.

Oh don’t forget the clean sheet by Darlow. Thought he was fairly steady. Controlled his box well.

Very impressive performance by all the lads, specially the new lads, i picked Jeff Hendrick as man of the match, he closed down the spaces when west ham had the ball and covered a lot of ground, a very good balance to the team and a lot more threat going forward and all these players are good pros and giving thier all for the manager, so ill need to give credit to Steve Bruce. Was going to vote for Hendrick even before his goal already.

Thing I loved the most was there was no sign of trying to hold on to one goal lead thus giving the opposition the control like numerous times in past seasons.

Thought Max was the mom. He got kicked from start to finish and still was a real threat.
