Newcastle fans will have woken up this morning and after remembering what happened yesterday at the London Stadium, it will have put a smile on their faces.
Newcastle looked a very good team yesterday, defended well, and attacked quickly on the break.
The three new players making their debuts, Callum Wilson, Jeff Hendrick, and Jamal Lewis all had good games and added some class to the side.
The winning goals in came in the second half through two of our new players, Callum Wilson and Jeff Hendrick.
Callum’s goal was an opportunist effort, after a cross from right-back Manquillo and a flick- on from Hendrick.
That was after 56 minutes and three minutes before the end of the game a shot from Hendrick, with little back lift went screaming into the top of the net.
That ensured Newcastle won their first game of the season since way back in 2012.
We looked good side yesterday, especially since this is the first game the new signings have played in, and we still have to see Ryan Fraser in a game.
He will probably play the whole game at home to Blackburn on Tuesday night against Blackburn Rovers in the 2nd round of the FA Cup.
He needs to play to get match fit.
Alan Shearer (shown above) was delighted with the overall performance and thinks there could be big things ahead for 28-year-old striker Callum Wilson.
Newcastle’s legend Alan Shearer – Wilson so alive in 18-yeard box
This is what Alan said on Match of the Day last night, as reported in the Chronicle:
“Very encouraging week for Newcastle, and they matched it with a really promising performance.”
“They had an edge to them today that I didn’t see many times last season and that edge was because of Callum Wilson.”
“His ability to constantly be a menace, be in and around the box is what Newcastle lacked.”
“It will take his teammates some time to get used to it because he is making clever runs in behind the opposition defense. He’s horrible to play against, defenders hate that.”
“Hopefully in time his teammates will learn how to play with him and get up to support him.”
“He was alive in that 18-yard box and it’s what they needed someone to do.”
“Jonjo Shelvey was top scorer last season with six goals and the reason they bought Callum Wilson is the put the ball in the back of the net and given them that focal point.”
“And he gets the goal that his performance deserves.”
“It was good play on the left-hand side from Jeff Hendrick, who I thought was superb as well.”
“That’s what he has to do. What a start for him and what a start for Newcastle.”

Comment #2Look at Liverpool for an example of a first game. They only just snuck it and the defence was all over the place and these are the champions

That’s my point it can happen to the best of them so it makes the result all more sweeter.

When a new article is published put a BIG post in previous article stating “The bus has moved on”
🙂
And I do appreciate what you and your team do. Very much.

Comment #9Hendrick really impressed me yesterday. Constant pressing, clever blocking of channels and showing trust to his team mates to do the right thing.
Been a long time since I saw somebody really take charge of the midfield like he did yesterday, and he was box to box for most of the game!

Comment #10Great to see Carroll come through unscathed, looking very pleased to be a part of this. Like to be a fly on the wall at Villa after Wilson dismissed as overpriced and over the hill.
