High Percentage Of Fans Think We Will Avoid Relegation Scrap This Season

Although we have been the bookies’ favorites to get relegated before the season started, the four new players Bruce has brought in – Hendrick, Wilson, Fraser, and Lewis, seem to have changed all that.

So much so that Newcastle fans now believe we can avoid a relegation scrap this season.

Yes, that’s unfortunately still the level of ambition of the club under owner Mike Ashley.

And yesterday’s performance in London and an excellent 2-0 win against West Ham, seems to further the belief that we could even be fighting for a top ten or even top eight (don’t get carried away Ed) position in the Premier League this year.

We’d like to see a couple more players brought in on loan, and that includes one more top striker.;

When we had our fans at St. James’ Park

We played so well yesterday, but we have to remember with the brutal schedule of the league this term, we are likely to have a number of injuries, and we must be ready for that.

But based on our poll results – around 70% think we can avoid a relegation fight – and the way the lads played yesterday, we could have a (pleasant enough) season without the anxiety of possible relegation.

That in itself is good news, given the state of nerves and other weaknesses some of our older fans have.

🙂

Think we’ll avoid relegation although at times we’ll be close to bottom three – on yesterday’s showing West Ham and Fulham look certs for the drop and Palace will also be down there if Zaha is sold

Come on Mindshaft have a bit more optimism mate.

It’s rare that we have anything to be optimistic about as a fan of this club so enjoy it when you can.

Think most of the predictions in martoons prediction thing have us in 10th – 15th , realistically where we should end up
Don’t recall one prediction saying we would be relegated 🙂

I hope Lawrenson’s coffee tasted bitter this morning and I really hope Owen tripped over and fell face first, mouth open into a pile of horse manure 🙂

Good win yesterday. Some managers and players do really well at one club as they just seem a good fit. Maybe Bruce and NUFC will be a good fit and the club he does really well at. Who knows. Maybe wishful thinking 🙂

I think we will avoid relegation as we now have the players to do that.

But as good a win as that was when West Ham made their substitutions we dropped back and gave up ground in midfield resorting to meaningless kicks upfield from our defenders to none existent forwards that was all very reminiscent of games last season.

I feared that West Ham would score. The team have to maintain their shape for the full 90 minutes and not sit back whether intentionally or not.

the way i look at it, we finished 14th last season with 44 points.

we have added a better CF, a PL winger better than we had for RW, a better LB than we have last year and Hendrick who could prove useful across MF too. i wont say and a fit AC as counting chickens and all that…

4 improvements to the team who finished 14th with 44 points., therefore Id expect us to do better than LY so 50+ points would be the expectation imo.

Our season will depend on injuries, keep our best players clear of them and we will be comfortable. Lose wilson or ASM and we could still be in for a slog.

and on that note, im off to the gym.

That’s the most impressed I’ve been with bruce. We carried a threat and he didn’t run our speedsters into the ground. Personally only disappointment was Shelvey. Surprisingly poor on set pieces.

I can’t believe that Moyes in their first home game didn’t start with anderson (40M), yarmolenko (?) and haller (45M) who all stayed on the bench till the 2nd half . Not sure what message he was trying to send. For a man who desperately loves himself yet failed at 3 clubs consecutively, is he really the man who, in his own words says ” I win games, it’s what I do” !!

I think I predicted finishing 9th however realistically I reckon its more 10th or 11th.

However (big if) if we buy Soumare and Loftus-Cheek or Connor Gallagher in on loan then I think we could be around 8th.

Very optimistic I know but… why not? You have to aim high.

Was curious about our starting fixtures for the last 10 years.
We’ only had 2 teams (including West Ham) out of the top 6 since 2010
    Spurs 4 times
    Man City twice
Arsenal twice and Man U once.
Southampton was the only other one outside of the top 6.

Seems weird, yeah it’s random but that’s a tough way to start any season.
If you don’t get 3 points 1st game it must have a knock on effect, especially if you’re at home.

Haven’t checked all the teams to see how bad or good their luck’s been.

Could it be that your colleagues on your prison camp-like rig are just using social distancing rules to avoid you?

Norwegians won’t forget the suffering they endured under the Nazis and maybe they’re tactfully getting a message across to one with similar views?

I cannot remember the last time I actually enjoyed a Toon game, I must have enjoyed one last season but the park the bus, park the minivan, park the burger van tactic seems to have been brushed away.

Yesterday was a breath of fresh air. I always say “I don’t mind if we lose, as long as we give it a go”

Looking at the last 6 years, Moyes should change his motto to I win 25% of games, or I used to win games. He’s gradually getting worse, or more likely He’s staying the same level while new managers keep getting better.
