Comment #4Ah! Missed the bus! Thought Lewis looked very good on the few clips I’ve seen. Will reserve judgement on the others, but great goals on their debuts. Going to Colchester tomorrow is there anything of interest there has anyone been?

Comment #5I had a lot more confidence in the team after the first five minutes in the match yesterday, when Lewis chipped the ball in and Wilson headed just wide. The number of attempts at goal from the striker was so pleaseing to see after the misery of last season. Hopefully it will rub off on Joelinton and we will see him develop his game also.

Great result yesterday.the players who came in all had an impact, my worry , as with most on here i would imagine , is Max, he was getting free kicks all over the place but the ref never really stopped the roughhousing , always heavily marked which he can deal with but he needs more protection, he or Bruce should do what Zaha did and complain, earlier the better.
The slug is only spending the clubs money, whether or not hes doing it to curry favour with potential new owners will be seen in the fullness of time.

Comment #11Magicmac from previous, the frustrating thing has been that Ashley’s interest in NUFC should have been aligned with our own. The fact that he’s now seeming to wake up to that fact is, frankly, too little too late.
Still, if it produces a decent season for us then I’ll take it for now and wait to see what the future holds.
Hopefully that includes seeing him receding from view at a fast rate of knots.

Comment #12End of the day things are changing behind the scenes.
The consortium and Ashley are working in union. Ashley believes he will be gone in the foreseeable future and his working with the consortium on transfers and future plans.
You don’t send out statements like that and go back under a rock. I truly believe the consortium and Ashley hold the cards now.

What is he waking up to? Like I said to DMicky, he is not interested in success. We would not have signed Wilson if Gayle had not have got injured.

We wouldn’t of signed Wilson full stop. That’s the fact you need to give attention.

Comment #17Jail, I did say he’s seeming to wake up to the fact that investment in the team can lead to protecting his investment in the club, not that he’s actually changing his behaviour long term.
Obviously it’s not his money, it’s the club’s, and it remains to be seen if this is a moment in time or part of a wider change in strategy.
I doubt that it’s the latter, though. As you say, recent purchases are likely to have been driven by events, particularly the injury to Gayle.

I’ve said it’s my opinion take from it what you like but it’s how I feel mate, just like you feel your way. Which is arguable but for me this is a huge shift in policy imo. Look at everything logically but probably won’t make a difference. Times are a changing imo

Comment #20Rob Leenio, Rob you made some good points there, Ashley might be a good business man but in the football world he doesnt have a clue, if he had run us properly he would have not only made a profit but would also have had a successful team and very happy fans, but greed got in the way Rob

Comment #21I don’t see any dramatic change in Ashley.
A 35 million net spend this year, same as last. 20 million the season before that, and 10 the one before that.
He’s simply allowing the club to spend its money, and the club has bought quite well, apart from the odd Joelinton deal.
A subtle change for the better, with the manager(s) having a little more input.
Nothing radical, but a long time in coming.

Comment #26The thing with the slug, he knows there are potential buyers out there now who will give him the money he wants if the club is actually a going concern, rather than being run down to the bare bones like it has been for 13 year or so.
Call it self interest if you like, if it benefits the team and us fans, im all for it, will i give him credit for doing it, absolutely not, hes doing it for financial gain tot for the club or fans
