If Bruce Has His Way, Squad Could Have Room For Two More Additions

After Newcastle’s flurry of transfer activity at the start of last week, the focus has shifted to offloading a handful of fringe players. If successful, it could open the door to strengthen this squad even more, which is likely the end game for Steve Bruce.

Newcastle have already sent Florian Lejeune to Alaves for a season-long loan. Yoshinori Muto is reportedly very close to doing the same with Eibar. The 28-year-old is due to complete the move in the next 24-hours per Keith Downie, with Sky Sports.

During his press conference for Blackburn this morning, Steve Bruce mentioned the move for Muto. He also stated that both Henri Saivet and Christian Atsu needed to find new clubs as well.

There is speculation that DeAndre Yedlin, Jacob Murphy, and Dan Barlaser could also be moved on to make way for new additions. Both Rolando Aarons and Achraf Lazaar were not handed squad numbers and recently rejected pay-outs but their days at Newcastle are numbered.

Below is the squad Bruce could have in mind as it leaves room for a couple more additions. Matty Longstaff will not take up a place since he’s just 20.

Goalkeepers

Martin Dubravka, Karl Darlow, Mark Gillespie

Defenders

Jamaal Lascelles, Federico Fernandez, Ciaran Clark, Fabian Schar, Emil Krafth, Javier Manquillo, Paul Dummett, Jamal Lewis

Midfielders

Jonjo Shelvey, Isaac Hayden, Jeff Hendrick, Sean Longstaff, Matty Longstaff*

Forwards

Callum Wilson, Andy Carroll, Joelinton, Dwight Gayle, Allan Saint-Maximin, Miguel Almiron, Ryan Fraser, Matt Ritchie

If Bruce names these 23 players that leaves room for two more additions before the window closes in October. We expect one of those to be another striker and possibly a versatile defender.

However, Bruce will have to be successful in offloading Saivet, Atsu, and Yedlin. We suspect that Murphy and Barlaser will be easy to move out on loan.

If he can’t clear all of these players, there’s still the option of leaving Dwight Gayle out as he won’t be available for four months. He could then be added in January once fit and whoever didn’t get moved could then be shifted.

Bruce appears to be working to clear all of the dead weight this window. If he is successful while bringing in two more players, even on loan, that would be an outstanding accomplishment. This would truly be a window where he stamped his authority on the squad.

Well right up until deadline I had Tierney in for Vinagre at the cost of Kane to Werner, changed back when Nuno announced that the new signings would be bedded in slowly. Tierney got a CS and gawd knows what Wener will do tonight to punish me. I’ve just made two transfers for the GW ahead and this one’s not even finished 😮

Remember though it’s a marathon not a sprint, a few poor GW’s don’t define your season.

One thing I don’t get – if the pl is so corrupt and Masters is this well dodgy geezah how come nobody from the PIF invited him to Nandos and slid a bag of gold under the table to him? This should have been sorted by now 🙂

He’s a CAM, however he can play as CM as well. Very energetic player and direct.

If we dont get any more midfielders then I’m happy however they do play too deep.

So if we can get players like Soumare or RLC then they would be a huge improvement on what we currently have.

Dont think we will though due to Hendrick and Matty signing.

    GhostToon
Sounds like he could of been a good addition to be fair mate but aye I think we are likely done for CM area. That Soumare link keeps coming up but he turned us down in Jan I cant see him agreeing now. I am not convinced we had bid again as well seemed more a rehash of Jan’s business to me

Wonder how the so called big six clubs and the likes of Barclays and Coca-Cola will react if the EPL is guilty of malpractice and they blow another £500million on the NUFC case on top of loosing £500 million from the defunct Chinese TV deal.

Pay Ashley £300m for the failed deal.
Pay the PIF £100M in damages
Blow £100m in legal fees, costs and golden goodbyes for Masters and others.

    £1billion down the pan.
    That would feed Africa.
    Ain’t right is it.

He needs quality additions at midfield to give him the option of 433, and at sec and striker to replace Muto, then he’s got the depth and quality to realistically achieve ninth or tenth.

If we can shift Muto, Atsu and Yedlin then it becomes more viable. Right now we just have too many players, but there’s still time in the window.

However, Ashley has never shown that level of commitment to the playing side, short blanket merchant that he has so consistently been.

This is a pretty extraordinary time though in his ownership, so it gives you some hope that it could happen, and I think the money is there.
