Tomorrow evening, Newcastle embark on their latest cup adventure. This time it’s the Carabao Cup against Blackburn. A win will see Newcastle face either Morecambe or Oldham away.
This is an excellent opportunity to go on another cup run after last season’s romp to the quarterfinals of the FA Cup. Bruce has made it a priority to take these competitions seriously so we expect a strong team to be put out.
Burce has already confirmed that Ryan Fraser will be handed his debut. Ciaran Clark will also make his return to the team after his long spell out with an ankle injury.
Bruce has limited options in a few areas – striker, center-back, and left-back being the primary concerns. Clark being declared fit is a big boost but it doesn’t look like Paul Dummett is ready just yet.
That could mean a second straight start for Jamal Lewis at left-back. We don’t see Andy Carroll playing a part tomorrow after his bruising performance on Saturday. Bruce will have to decide between giving Wilson the nod again or going with Joelinton up top.
After the performance Wilson put in at West Ham on Saturday, we’re not really looking forward to seeing Joelinton at striker again. But that may be the only option since it’s looking like Yoshinori Muto is heading to Eibar on loan, which Bruce has confirmed during his press conference earlier today.
It’ll be interesting to see who Bruce goes with for tomorrow’s cup tie. But we hope to see another positive performance to keep the momentum going at the start of this season.

Comment #2I think the consortium has said to Ashley that if you can get us through the Owners and Directors test – we will buy the club.

That maybe a little untested to beat Blackburn, but we definitely need the whole squad up to speed to create competition for places and relieve injuries.

Comment #7I hope he doesnt play Wilson or Maximin, Darlow
we really dont need to, we have got ample cover for them and simply cant risk such pivotal players on a Carabao cup first round.
Fyi, I’m only calling Darlow pivotal because of the injury to Dubs.

Comment #17when news of Ashleys newly appointed legal team broke this morning, a dark cloud would have quickly settled over PL headquarters,
still think a suitable compromise will be reached before it ever gets to court, it’s in all parties best interest to settle,
can you visualise the world wide media coverage of a case like this would create and the damage it would do to the PL reputation.

Comment #19For the first part of the takeover process all reports were there ‘were no red flags’ despite the repeated public displays by the ex who has now vanished.
PIF passed the O&D test in May according to some in the know, and we were all set. Hence the #cans hashtag.
But in June the whole tone of the saga took on a different tone. Leaks came out, insults came out. It was almost as if Qatar and Barclays had colluded to appoint their own PL chief to derail the takeover. And almost as if that new PL chief had his friend go on television in Qatar and publicly state the new PL chief had been hired to deal with the takeover. Hired by who? For what means?
Whether you like NUFC or Ashley, or Saudi’s, it is irrelevant.
What matters most is that this summer saw corruption on an industrial scale being carried out by the organisation the fans have entrusted to run the game fairly. An organisation who has never been held to account for a single decision.
The PL built up a House of Cards to protect the top six. This new legal action will tear that house of cards down. We will win.

Comment #24James the First – so if Ashley’s action is not focused on monetary compensation and is based squarely on overturning the PL rejection of Directors eligibility, you’re saying that, if successful, the Saudi takeover will be approved. So this would mean that Ashley has assurances that the sale would be immediately concluded by all parties? Otherwise what’s the point?

Ashley is not acting alone. He would not waste his time and resources if he knew they were not waiting in the wings to takeover the club. The consortium want the final obstacle removed – subjecting the Crown Prince to the O&D, which is a Qatar request.
This legal action will remove that.
Every single member of PCP and PIF passed the test. The PL were stumped. What can we try next to derail this? I know, let’s insult the Crown Prince himself. That will do the trick.
Crown Prince was here last week meeting with Boris. Same week it was reported that a government aid had approached the PL on our behalf to get this sorted.

Comment #31Hmm. Well let’s see if the PIF start coming out of the shadows then. Would they keep quiet until a decision is made? We are assuming they are still in cahoots with Ashley behind the scenes and in some way driving him forward as the injured party to take action?

Forget the cups, but the U23 and fringe players in until they get knocked out
This is going to be a brutal season with no recovery time and we simply do not have the reserves to back us up on injuries.

PIF have made many large investments all over the world.
In how many of these were MBS or the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia required to be Named as a Director?

The PIF “withdrew” to save face publically. The deal was always still on the table at the Premier League. It was never legally withdrawn in writing via the club…
This latest move by Ashley is to remove any obstacle in the way of PIF and a takeover…
If (when) Ashley wins his case, the PIF will dance in and become majority owners of NUFC.
In the meantime, they have “withdrawn” their pursuit of the purchase.
I will be surprised if we have not got new owners in the next Month to six weeks. The PL do not want this drawn out in public!

Comment #38The possible law suit will need to be done by the seller, if it is proved that the epl have âslowed down or blockedâ the takeover due to any outside influence , they are accountable and will have to pay huge compensation , they will not allow this to happen as it will tarnish the reputation of the âbest league in the worldâ ……personally, i believe this will be settled out of court, more than likely within a few weeks ( probably just after the transfer window closes to keep scouserfool and spors happy)

Comment #40According to all reports the deal was done last Tuesday. For that to happen PIF HAD to be back at the table last week.
But Masters then changed his mind and blocked it again. He went on TV squirming in that interview packed with lies.
Ashley issued his statement that evening after speaking to these two lawyers.
They always suspected the PL had an agenda to derail the takeover. Last week proved it.
