Barlaser, Fraser, And Yedlin Get Starts Against Blackburn

Here is the team Steve Bruce has selected for tonight’s Carabao Cup tie against Blackburn at St James Park. It has a whopping ten changes from the 2-0 win at West Ham with Javier Manquillo the only holdover.

As Bruce declared he would during his press conference, he’s made wholesale changes for this match. It comes just three days after our opening Premier League win at the London Stadium.

This is not as strong of a team as we had hoped for but hopefully, it’ll be enough to get past Blackburn. Both Mark Gillespie and Ryan Fraser get their Newcastle debuts while Dan Barlaser is handed a surprise start in the midfield alongside Sean Longstaff.

This is who Tony Mowbray will send out for the visitors. Former Newcastle striker and local lad Adam Armstrong is on the bench to start off.

Newcastle have been handed a generous draw to advance in this competition. A win tonight will see us pitted against one of two League Two clubs in Morecambe or Oldham away next week. Let’s hope this rotated team can get the job done against Blackburn this evening.

Howay The Lads!

Have to agree, after a nervy start Barlaser has improved, meanwhile Longstaff seems a bit lost and the game is passing him by.

Tempted to say put Hendrick or Hayden in the middle with Barlaser.

We’ve seen 4 forwards play in this formation now.

3 make the grade and have awesome attitudes and lots of eagerness to do well, all bringing something different, the 4th is Joelinton – he has to shape up in the next 45 or leave the club. Hasn’t shown any vigour whatsoever.

Joelinton has played 17 minutes of pre season. This is his pre season.

Joelinton still proving the doubters right, he literally looks w@nk against lower league teams, no pace, hold up,skill, control or passing ability lads a genius making a living at something he can’t do.

Longstaff again showing he just isn’t prem standard gone backwards far too much.

Fraser and Miggy the positives, working well together.

Fair enough, but it hasn’t stopped Fraser from running at full tilt on a few occasions. Joe has barely broke out of a jog.

You get fit by pushing yourself.

Longstaff started to make his presence felt towards the end of the first half
He suffers from being played so far up the pitch
He should be playing in front of the back four
where he can influence the game more

    Plus points:

Almiron and Frasers link up play already looks telepathic at times very promising
Barlaser could be prem quality given a run of games
Krafth looking more comfortable at CB

    Negative points:

    Sean Longstaff not doing anything
Joelinton…. not his position shall we say
Richie and Yedlin not doing anything at all offensively
Overly defensive again sit far too deep our goal came from pressing we should do it more Bruce!

    Joelinton isnt a centre forward
the only person who deserves the most blame for his lacklustre first half performance is the person who insists on playing him there

At the other end of the country, Kelland Watts’s scored for Plymouth.

We are winning, that is the main thing, jeolinton needs to go out on loan or cut losses and sell him for 10 million
