Report – Magpie Again Linked With A Move Back To Old Stomping Grounds

DeAndre Yedlin was handed a start yesterday in our 1-0 win over Blackburn in the Carabao Cup. The right-back failed to make the bench in the Premier League opening win at West Ham.

He also made just two starts after lockdown last season as he’s become the third-choice right back under Steve Bruce. The 27-year-old is entering the final year of his contract and could be one Bruce decides to offload as he trims his squad down to 25.

Bruce recently stated that he would look at DeAndre’s situation as he feels it’s not healthy to have three right-backs in the squad.

Earlier this summer, Yedlin was linked with a move back to the States by MLS writer Tom Bogert.

CBS Sports journalist Roger Gonzalez has today provided an update on Yedlin via Twitter. He’s reporting that the MLS remains a viable landing spot for the American.

DeAndre formerly played for the Seattle Sounders prior to moving to Tottenham in 2014. However, Newcastle would have to be lenient with any transfer fees for a move back to America to come off.

The situation with Yedlin is fluid right now. Despite recent reports that an appearance clause could open negotiations for a new contract, we think his future likely lies elsewhere.

He’s behind Javier Manquillo and Emil Krafth in the pecking order. Like Florian Lejeune and Yoshinori Muto, he’s not going to get many opportunities this season, and squad place could be used to further strengthen this team.

We shouldn’t be giving him away, we’re not an effing charity.

Surely with all the wealth in the USA one of those rich club owners could cough up £3-5m ffs.

He’s one of the most capped players for their country and they want him on a free.

    Joke.

His best two attributes are pace and stamina and at 27 they’re going to drop soon. If they do he’s very average. Still surely he’s worth 2-3m even in todays climate.

Seriously if he was back up at one of the top teams they would be asking for 15 million minimum.. I think we should atleast get 5 million for him

May just be enough to keep us in the league with what we have, i would be a bit happier if we jettisoned the deadwood and brought in another striker and LB ….i think that might just push us up the league rather than looking down.
Anyone know when the MENA tv rights is up and when the bidding for the rights starts ?

Yedlin seemed to peak a few seasons ago, he’s never been very good at defending and relies on pace to get out of trouble, the number of times Schar, Lascelles etc has had to cover when he’s gone awol is alone a reason to get rid.

I think he’s a decent championship player, time to move him on.

Willems wants to come back. Sell Yedlin for whatever the loan fee would be and bring back Willems. We then have right and left back cover.

Possibly need one more cb who could cover rb, although if we needed to i’m sure Schar or even Barlaser have played there at times.

Bring in another striker, to add depth and also to stop Bruce playing Joelinton as a target man.

Ideally bring in a box to box midfielder, ie a Will Hughes or Loftus-Cheek. I think that then enables either Barlaser or Sean Longstaff to go out on loan, tempted to say the latter as clear he needs regular games to get back on form.

Evening chaps, not a lot going on today apart from Yedders wanting to bugger off back across the pond.
He is worth at least 4M, i would`nt let him go for nothing, no way.
Hey, it all adds up towards funds for a new signing, or brand new wheelie bins. screw the yanks.

Another historic club goes down. Macclesfield Town being wound up due to 500k of debt. This should not be happening in a world where footy players are on that much per week.

Yedlin, like Clark, Hanley, Hayden etc etc with their dual Champo/PL experience were bought to get us promoted and then make a first of the PL without wholesale changes. They were not meant to be here three years later, the promises that they wouldn’t got lost with the plans of the new training ground.

Makes our issue fade into insignificance. Although having said that, clubs going down is a symptom of all the shady goings on and corruption.

I’m pretty sure if we want to get rid of our dead wood, we can forget about any sort of transfer fee. Cut the losses on the fees – the real goal is to lower the wage bill, and free up slots for our future stars (which these lot clearly aren’t – we all know who they are).

Yedlin has disappointed me over the years. I always felt he could and should have given us a bit more. Had his moments, but could never cope defensively in the prem.

WL he’s on £33k week and got 2 years still to run on his contract, if he just sits on his hands for the next 2 years as others are happily doing that’s going to cost the club just over £3-25m for nowt,
if we can get him away he should be gone,

Not healthy to have 3 right backs in the squad? Last year we parked the coach, the minibus, the burger van and Cashley’s helicopter in front of the goal, then (now correct me if I am wrong) played 3 goalkeepers

    Jetro’s been tweeting cryptically

    Omw….

    https://twitter.com/JetroWillems_15/status/1306234579536302080

However, he’s also taken “Football Player for Newcastle United” out of his twitter bio.

Looks like he’s on his way elsewhere than NUFC, which disappoints me massively, even though I expected it after we signed Lewis.
