Who Did Our Readers Select As The Top Magpie Against Blackburn?

Steve Bruce made ten changes for our 1-0 Carabao Cup win over Blackburn on Tuesday. It wasn’t an easy watch as the visitors asked most of the questions.

But it’s a win, and after last season, getting a result after a poor performance is nothing new. Though it was a disappointment coming on the heels of the outstanding win at West Ham.

While a few of the performances were lacking, there were some good displays to get excited about. Ryan Fraser looked inspired to play in the black and white shirt. He got the game-winner on his debut in his first match since March.

Ciaran Clark made a triumphant return from his ankle injury. He was very solid at the back partnering with Emil Krafth, who put in an admirable performance as well.

Miguel Almiron notched another assist with his deft reverse pass to Fraser. Bruce has a decision to make for Brighton on Sunday. Will he stick with a Callum Wilson and Andy Carroll partnership? Or go with Miggy as the number 10 behind Wilson.

Then there’s the returning Geordie, Mark Gillespie, who claimed a clean sheet on his Newcastle debut. The 28-year-old was not offered a contract twelve years ago as a teenager but returned this summer.

Mark put in an inspired performance playing for his hometown club. Our readers have selected him as the top Magpie. He joins Jeff Hendrick as the second new signing to win our poll as the Man of the Match.

Jail, I’d link to think I will give you a bit of competition this week in the H2H after a complete flatliner of a first week. The great thing is, I cannot get any worse going into game week 2.

I have my reserve firepower coming off the bench. Also, seeing as I know you have already made your transfers, I swapped out Werner for Martial.

You’ve got a +4 head start as well. The good thing about having Kane is that I can swap him for anyone and free up a bit of cash.

When your keeper picks up a MOTM it’s generally not been a great performance by the outfield players…

Bruce haters must have hated the previous article 🙂

    I liked it.

We just see one side of a coach, his public persona, but the real work is behind the scenes.

In order for us to learn more, we need to pay attention to players who have little to lose in praising or condemning a previous coach of theirs.

Congratulations to Omonoia for making the CL stages. Ketspaia’s Anorthosis had finished a close second in the league.

He wasn’t happy (ok, he was furious) that the championship was interrupted, with the team ahead winning it.

Apparently Liverpool and City made enquiries for Bruce after our sensational 1-0 win over Blackburn on Tuesday night, but Ashley was willing to offer more money than them so he stayed put…

Let’s face it, Bruce is okay and some of the players benefit from his coaching and style – is he a world class coach , no but then we hardly have a world class squad – you can get silk from a sows ear !

If Bruce was given man city or Liverpool jobs he’d probably win the league , he’s had pretty poor squads every where he’s been

Can he get the best out this squad … We’ll see as the season plays out but ultimately Ashley won’t loosen purse strings so we’re stuck with workmanlike players and the odd lucky buy that works

I think Ashley has changed tack to allow older English players for a couple of reasons – they’re affordable and the fact that he wasted up to 40 million on Joe Linton !!

George Caulkin: “I am told that what this [potential legal challenge] is about is trying to force an actual decision from the Premier League.

“If they have a rejection, if they have a formal rejection, then they can appeal it, and they can do something about it.” #nufc

Hate or haters are very strong and over used words for just about anyone people may dislike or disagree with these days. I doubt anyone ”hates” Bruce. Some may question and wonder why his bonhomie has rarely translated into good watchable football, ever winning anything, or prevented lengthy injury lists. However, that is not hate, just an opinion. Now if you’re talking real hate, Catchy is your man.

Why have you guys been talking about if Bruce is good or bad for 13 or 14 months now?
We all obviously know what type of manager Bruce is and thats the end of story

Love the look on Yedlin’s face in that photo. He seems really happy that Gillespie caught that cross.

3 Premier league teams knocked out by championships team in this round of the cup so far. We got through even when playing our second team.

Undefeated this season in 2, haven’t conceded a goal and have had 3 x new signings score for the club – couldn’t be happier

“An ultracrepidarian (19th century) is one who consistently holds forth on a subject they know nothing about.

“…there is also a verb for it: to venture far beyond your understanding is to ‘ultracrepidate’.”

I think you’ll find that’s called a ‘Trump’, with the verb being ‘to Trump’.

Still thinking about the 25 man squad, trying a different approach by listing the ones who are certain to be in it.

    Dubravka, Darlow, Gillespie
    Manquillo, Kraft, Lewis, Dummett
    Lascelles, Fernandez, Clark
    Hayden, Shelvey, Hendrick
    Fraser, Ritchie, Almiron, Saint-Maximin
    Wilson, Carroll, Joelinton

    Only 20 there.
    Schar, S.Longstaff very likely

Which leaves 3 spots left from
Yedlin, Barlaser, Murphy and Gayle…..maybe Atsu

So plenty of room to make loan moves etc

Registering Gayle seems pointless, imagine we’ll bring a striker on loan, if it’s striker that doesn’t take up a squad place. Then still replace Gayle with someone to make up the numbers

Still a slight chance if a few of the above go out on loan, Saivet gets registered….very slight but more chance of him than Lazaar and Aarons.

Thiago to Liverpool for 25M!!! What a steal that is and should fit in this league well. The new David Silva of this league?

It would be good if it created enough interest to start a third division next year.
