Steve Bruce has given his press conference for the home against Brighton on Sunday – a win would give us three wins in our first three games this season, and it’s not often we have done that.
Steve also has given an injury update and there are no new injuries, which is good news.
Hopefully those currently out injured, Martin Dubravka, Paul Dummett, Matty Longstaff, Fabian Schar and Dwight Gayle are progressing well.
Our number one goalkeeper Martin Dubravka can hopefully return in two or three weeks time from his ankle injury.
There have been recent reports that Newcastle; may be after right-backs like Bologna right-back Takahiro Tomiyasu, and Atlético Madrid’s Santiago Arias.
But Bruce has refused to comment on who may be coming in and who may be going out.
We are also linked with Peruvian youngster Vilca, who is rated around £250K.
But there’s no deal agreed yet with his club Deportivo Municipal, who are reportedly wanting more money for their young star.
That should hardly be a problem for Newcastle, if they really want to bring this player in.
This is what Steve Bruce (shown above) said when asked about the young Peruvian:
“I’m not going to comment on anybody coming in terms of names.
“You can never say never. We will see what the market throws at us.
“We’ll see what becomes available.
“I am pleased with what we’ve done, but I’ll never say never.”
“I have seen it. But then again, I have seen it with so many players.”
“As far as I am concerned, it’s pure speculation.”
“It’s still too early for Dummett, Schar, Matty Longstaff and Dubravka.”
“We have a clean bill of health. Allan Saint-Maximin is fine.”
Calum Chambers is also said to b available for around £12M from Arsenal.
That seems like a reasonable price for the versatile and experienced defender, who can also play at right-back.
If Bruce follows his very sound and successful strategy this summer, of the three right backs mentioned above, Chambers would appear to be the best choice.
But we don’t know if Newcastle have £12M available to buy the former Saints player outright this summer.
We could get him in on loan perhaps, with an option to buy next summer.
But Fulham and West Ham are also after him, and they could be better choices for him, so he can stay in the south and the capital.
Maybe.
What do you think?
Comments welcome.

Life’s such that it brings with it problems and life’s like food, we can never be guaranteed that it’s not going to upset our tums.
We pays our money and takes our chance.

Comment #4Beer Goggles work well for a few hours but unfortunately the downside can be damaging to health and finances for many years. That’s the hard stuff right there. Wear at your peril.
Right about ice cubes, especially in a foreign country, the water can be from anywhere and many times they are put into the glass by a grubby mitt. I generally don’t have ice in drinks, once in a restaurant I asked them to take back a glass with ice and just give me an empty one. I watched them tip it back into their ice bucket. For all they knew I could have used them to soothe my gingivitis ha ha and spat them back in the glass – not that i have that of course…. 😐

Comment #5I once bought a bottle of water on a train platform in Morocco, can’t remember where abouts now, while in a hurry to catch a train, luckily I noticed the seal on the bottle had been removed and amateurly put back before I drank it. Gawd knows where that might have come from.

Comment #6Also on the same venture, while waiting for a coach, keen to try out local customs I bought what I thought was some of the local herb. When i got on said coach, aforementioned herb crumbled in my hands as i went to try it out, it was a lump of sandstone, conniving little blighters in that part of the world 😀

Comment #9Chambers is a bit of an odd one. Was so highly rated and did so well at RB for Southampton but his time at Arsenal and out on loan he’s been put in at CB and hasn’t really shown any consistency.
He could be a great signing or an unmitigated disaster like he was at Fulham the other season. I doubt he’s on low wages either.

I didn’t believe any reports. My dream of Poch with Koulibally was exactly that a dream. My true thoughts were that they would stick with Bruce for at least a season but whenever I suggested that it got a few backs up.
I’ve said a few times I wouldn’t think past an announcement with my whole focus on that. It saved me tbf aa I would of been a lot worse but it’s not over yet.
