Poll – Who Was Newcastle’s Best Player Against Brighton?

Well, we’ve seen that before. Some of the names have changed but the performance was reminiscent of some of last season’s plonkers. Steve Bruce’s Achilles heel of having teams seem unprepared for a match has reared it’s ugly head once again. It didn’t take long.

There were few performances this afternoon that even deserve a mention. Miguel Almiron came on in the second half and tried to spark some life into Newcastle. Javier Manquillo put in an admirable display at right-back.

Callum Wilson gave his all but his wayward header in the 63rd minute basically slammed the door shut on any comeback. But this game was decided well before then. Two teams emerged from the St James Park tunnel but only one was ready from the start. That was Brighton.

We’ve come crashing back to earth after two flat and uninspired displays. The one midweek against Blackburn was understandable as it was a changed team. Today was just infuriating to see a rested first team put in a toothless display like that.

To top it off our goal difference is in the red. The chances of mounting a fighting start this season has taken a serious blow.

We’ll see what Wednesday at Morecambe brings. We expect a comfortable win due to the opposition. As for next Sunday at Spurs, who knows what to expect. Could be excellent, could be decent, could be atrocious. Who knows.

Got to get rid of Hayden. We need a dominating central midfielder. Sissoko fits the bill. Hayden always passes backwards and is a waste of space. You can’t win a game of football with a poor midfield. We also need one fast striker at least.

I’d say Almiron, worked hard, created best chance, should be a starter

Almiron is our best players. Fast and doesn’t give the ball away much. Should be more greedy though.

Do Brighton always play a 3-5-2 formation ?

If so, then it’s our manager who must take the blame as our midfield will be nullified and are forwards starved of service.

Signing 3 more players wont make much difference if we set up 442 longball every game.

Bet Kane and son are bricking it right now after todays matches.

Bruce should be sacked for not starting Almiron and not paying Yedlin. We need pace down the right.

Really missed the bus there so rate repost.
    hibbit,
Did you read his fair and balanced views on the Blackburn game. “That was awful, Bruce has to do better” A token statement to try and prove he is fair and balanced but only highlighted that he is anything but, in fact on the contrary as similar performances would have brought out a scathing lengthy attack with comments like “tactical genius my ar$e”

So many after-the-fact merchants here it’s hilarious
When it took courage to condemn Carroll being in the starting 11, (i.e. before we got trashed 3-0) they were silent
Now , hey’re speaking out with their chest
What a bunch of lilylivered shameless losers

I would sign the following at least:

Willems – Loan (much better than Lewis)
    Ibrahima Sissoko – £10m
    Shaqiri – £12m
    Marega – £14m

The government have advised against needless journeys. Brighton goalkeeper Mat Ryan has travelled 350 miles to Newcastle today for absolutely no reason. #nufc

Leeds hav`nt been in the PL for 16 years, does that mean we should class them as an easy 3 points?
My point is this, it has nothing to do with where a team finished over the last 2 or 3 seasons, it`s about their capabilities THIS season.
If some of the blinkered fans had of watched Brighton in their last 2 games they would of shown them a bit more respect, i watched them through the weak and they looked far better than us, i opted for a draw at best, i knew Brighton,s capabilities.
I have Brighton to finish above us in the PL, why, bcos they showed us why today.
It`s about time Toon fans took their blinkers off, there is more than one football club on the planet.

There should be a poll on Bruce’s suitability for management. If your only skill is being a bit canny then surely a Terry Mac role would be better. Let a proper manager control the team and Bruce can get a job being a canny bloke in Tesco. Maybe he’d make a good barman if he’s canny.

Awful performance. With Stevie Wonder in charge we will never get anywhere near the top 10. We need a manager who plays a progressive pressing game. That’s the way football is moving. Instead we have this horrible brand of football.

This is going to be a looooong season.

Not at all re Leeds but we should think we are able to get a win at home vs them. Same as with Brighton who we have finished above every season.

for the record i voted for a draw for the match as I thought we would struggle with how they set up.

lets face it – until we have owners who want to push on this is the type of display we will have to put up with. ASM will be gone soon – maybe even b4 October window shuts – and we face the long hard slog towards 40 points!

I thought, as the first 20 mins developed, the wheels could properly come off here.
In the end 3 nowt flattered us a bit.
And we were there to be tonked had Brighton really kept at it. Instead they did the sensible thing and went for ‘game management’. There are a few teams in the PL that would have really put us to the sword.
Hopefully today will jolt the players, and we will start the game on time in the next one.
Scary to see how easy it was for Brighton.

burnley should be winnable as they play 442 direct just like we did today. wont be a classic but there is no need for tactical thinking there so Brucey may be alright, same as vs Moyes at west Ham.

You choosing to talk about football when it suits you sounds about right as it hasn’t stopped you defending your absent fwend in the past.
