Report – Newcastle Interested In Versatile Portuguese Midfielder

Newcastle were reportedly offered Inter Milan midfielder Joao Mario in May of 2019. He was being shopped around at a price tag of £17m.

There were no takers at that price and the Portuguese international was shipped out on loan to Russian club Lokomotiv Moscow for a season. He also spent the latter half of the 2017-18 season on loan at West Ham where he made 14 appearances.

Last season he made 22 appearances for Lokomotiv Moscow but joined them when the Russian League was already two months underway. He provided one goal and 6 assists in his abbreviated loan spell.

Sport Witness is now citing a claim from Portugal’s O Jogo that Newcastle, Leeds, and West Ham have taken an interest in Mario.

The price tag has dropped to around £12m as Inter boss Antonio Conte again tries to shift the 46-time capped Portuguese international. This price seems steep in the current market as he has no future with Inter Milan.

However, Mario moved to the Italian giants in 2016 for over £30m and has made just 69 appearances for the club. So they’ll want to recoup some of their losses. Galatasaray, Real Betis, and Valencia are reported to have an interest in the 27-year-old as well.

As for Newcastle, Mario is a very versatile player who would add some creativity in the final third. Unless Milan allow him to leave on loan once again, we can’t see much in this at the moment.

He is decent but would be destroyed playing for us under Bruce

Would get put in a midfield 2 and would look championship quality after a couple of games of getting outnumbered and with instructions to hoof it the second he gets it would just be a waste of a technical player

I understand why a good few have left this blog now.

A small section think they rule this blog and always have thought it.

One rule for some another for the rest.

There’s a clique of pricks who think they have the voice of the blog who praise there own hearts “oh look at how many hearts”

Funny how these people are quick to say anything to others but feel they are untouchable to anything being said to them.

Speaks volumes when people can’t own there shit when there wrong. But go on at others like they have godly powers with immunity to themselves.

I would never trust any person like that.

There are some right pretentious knob ed’s on here and they know who they are as well.

Luckily there are some really sound people too on here that dont take life too seriously and love chatting footie and day to day sh#t. Also when they are wrong they are happy to put their hands up and admit it.

Agreed and if I’m wrong I’ll hold my hands up and I have done a few times. But some are incapable maybe it’s there age it normally is something like that where they are set in there ways. That’s fine to be like that but not be all judge jury and executioner on all other matters.

But there is a lot of sound lads and lasses on here and that’s why most have stayed around.

You were unlucky there bud, thought you had me when Jimenez scored.

I had that bad a gameweek that even with a 16 point head start i only just dragged myself across the line.

If we managed to sign the best players in the world game it would make no difference bacause our manager/coach is terrible.
Steve Bruce has to go before ANY progress can be made.

Yeah I think the blog has changed over the last few years I think after the last relegation and championship season

Everyone has opinions on Rafa for example rightly or wrongly but I just wish everyone would move on from that and focus solely on our current situation!

I knew h would be blaming the empty stadium, in other words Bruce” The fans are the ones who drag us over the line in games, its them who get the team motivated as my staff and I are useless, have no gameplan, dont do any homework and zero tactical nouse, so we can blame the fans for not being here”

    Good morning everyone,

Like many of you I’m still feeling p’ed off after the Brighton match but Hey Ho I’ll have to try and forget that game like many other very forgettable games!

If they could get a result at Spurs that would certainly ease the pain!!!

My team vs Morecambe, based on giving a few a chance.

    Kraft, Lascelles, Clark, Lazaar
    Saivet, Hayden
    Ritchie, S.Longstaff, Joelinton

Why not play Saivet and Lazaar, sat around earning money.

Was tempted to start Wilson just for my fantasy football team.

Beating Morecambe is a must and something that we should accomplish, one way or another.

However, merely beating them isn’t enough. This is becoming one of the defining matches of Bruce’s tenure.

Beat them comfortably and the club and its fans move forward with a spring in their step. Beat them with a scuffed shot in the 85th minute having huffed and puffed for the rest of the match and the knives will be out.

Probably rightly so. Even those who have supported Bruce, as I have done, are starting to wonder what could be achieved with a different coach.

He may have till Christmas to get the team playing as it can and should, but if things don’t improve from Blackburn and Brighton, it’s likely he won’t get that long.

The excuses are gone, this is not Rafa’s squad any more – it’s had significant investment, particularly in the forward line. For us to not even register a shot on target at home vs (an albeit decent) Brighton with the players we now have up top is frankly unacceptable.

Was Mister Tuff’s note yesterday about being bashed on the noggin and left by an ambulance crew allegorical or was it an actual experience?

If the latter, I hope you’re getting better Tuff.

I thought Saivet and Lazaar were not in Bruce’s long term plans so why play them.

There is an argument that says the same team that lost on Sunday should play with Wednesday to redeem themselves or confirm their shockingly poor performance on Sunday wasn’t a one off.

I haven’t looked at the calendar much and it’s not a normal year.

Would we have played roughly the same games?

I haven’t even bothered looking at the winter window.

With this “second outbreak” im wondering if it’ll be another season of disruption

OP, good to hear you’ve kept busy at work, I remember you saying at the start of this that you couldn’t get hold of the things you needed as German factories had been shut.

As for Christmas, I guess I was being lazy – it’s something people say isn’t it, as in “he’ll be sacked by Christmas” or whatever.

Realistically, he’s getting judged now and if things don’t turn around fast he’ll not make it anywhere near that far.

Saying that, who would come to replace him? Dyche? Poch? Eddie Howe?

I think Howe is probably the only one who would consider it, honestly, just to get back in the Premier League, but he might think twice about working for Ashley.

The other two I mention only because I’ve seen others talking about them but realistically Dyche wouldn’t come under Ashley and we wouldn’t want him under new owners, Poch is the same but we’d have him in a heartbeat.

Poor kid, that’s his playing career wrecked. How many players have we bought for next to nowt, given them decent long term contracts who end up being duds? The only one I can think of being considered a success is Perez.

I thought we needed a solid DM capable of physically dominating the midfield; not AM with questionable productivity.
