The lads have stomped Morecambe 5-0 in the first half. While it is a League Two club, there’s been some quality play from the Magpies so far tonight.
Newcastle came out in a 4-2-3-1 with DeAndre Yedlin playing at left-back and Emil Krafth on the right. Joelinton led the line with Miguel Almiron behind him.
It didn’t take long for Newcastle to seize the early lead. Emil Krafth carried the ball into the box from the right after receiving it from Murphy. The Swede passed it to Almiron who directed the ball to Joelinton. The Brazilina tapped it home. What a start from Newcastle.

It should of been another for Joelinton in the 10th minute. Jacob Murphy did brilliantly to beat two men and surge to the byline where he chipped a cross toward the back post. Joelinton just watched the ball flutter in the air and bounce of the inside of the post before rolling into the Morecambe keeper’s gloves. A baffling moment from the Brazilian.
But Newcastle kept pushing and added another through Miguel Almiron. Jacob Murphy, who has been on fire, guided Miguel Almiron through on Mark Halstead. Miggy dribbled around the keeper before rifling the ball into the net.

In the 28th minute, Jacob Murphy got his well-deserved goal. Murphy won the ball in the Morecambe half and surged toward the box before burying a left-footed shot into the bottom corner.

Newcastle continued to heap the misery onto the Shrimps. Joelinton bagged his second of the evening just four minutes after Murphy. It was a beauty from Big Joe. He gathered the ball on the left, cut inside, and looped in a long-range effort.

Toumani Diagouraga then received a straight red for a challenge on Sean Longstaff. The flurry of goals calmed down for a bit but Newcastle added a fifth just before the half time whistle.
Isaac Hayden gathered a pass from the left and drifted inside before launching a bullet in the back of the net. The goalscoring exhibition continues for Newcastle.

We expect Bruce to make a few changes to save a couple for Tottenham. Some candidates could be Andy Carroll for Miguel Almiron and Dan Barlaser for Isaac Hayden. We’ll see what Bruce decides to do.
