Newcastle enjoyed a demolition of Morecambe tonight winning 7-0 with some fantastic goals, including two from Joelinton and one from Jacob Murphy, who was unplayable at times. While it was against League Two competition, the lads put their heads down and got the job done very early allowing for a comfortable second half.
Newcastle came out with one change after pummelling Morecambe 5-0 in the first half. Worryingly it was Ryan Fraser on for Ciaran Clark, who has only recently returned from injury.
The change moved Ritchie to left-back and Yedlin over to the right. Emil Krafth moved to partner Jamaal Lascelles in the center. Fraser started the half on the left-wing.
Newcastle scored their next goal just after five minutes into the second-half This time the captain got into the act. Lascelles headed a Matt Ritchie corner into the bottom corner to make it 6-0.

Bruce made his second and third changes in the 62nd minute bringing Dan Barlaser on for Isaac Hayden and Andy Carroll on for Miguel Almiron.
Newcastle continued to dominate the game with some more chances but not quite the finishing of the first half. Emil Krafth had a ball cleared off the line on Ritchie corner in the 71st minute. Sean Longstaff, Andy Carroll, and Ryan Fraser all had some really good chances as well.
It wasn’t until added time that Newcastle added their next and final goal. This time Matt Ritchie back-heeled a ball in from Dan Barlaser to bring the final score to 7-0.

This was an excellent display and we hope to see something similar next week at Newport County. But first, it’s a league fixture at Spurs on Sunday, where we’ll need to see an improvement from the Brighton debacle.

Comment #6I think Carol and Shelvey are handbrake or a ball and chain to the team.
Neither is in any way what you’d call a modern prem player, they offer little other than to make our game one dimensional.
Ill be glad to see the back of both

Comment #7I too would drop Hendrick and put Murphy in his place.
If these games are to prove a point to Bruce then Murphy has done it.

Comment #8Excellent result and performance well done to everyone involved
We have to keep Murphy its now or never for him if ASM isn’t match fit I would start him wide right with Fraser wide left and Almiron as the no 10 really get at Spurs with some pacy pressing for once
Longstaff and Hayden also have to start
Carroll looked so poor when he came on and the team totally changed the way we were playing to accomodate him he should be a sub only to see games out

Comment #10Always pros and cons but after the dismal performance against Brighton and the grief SB and the team got, they got it right and did the job.
You can only beat what is in front of you and fair play, they did just that.

Bring on Newport…………….but not Spurs lol

Comment #11Considering Bruce himself said that it wouldn’t be fair to drop Carroll for Brighton after the West Ham game, surely the same must apply for Murphy and Almiron at least for the Spurs game.

Comment #12I think Carroll and Shelvey are fine, but you would have to question whether they are both regular starters. Certainly Shelvey looks a worry in a 442. Less so in a 4231, with Miggy buzzing around helping out in midfield. Carroll most obviously useful off the bench here and there with 30 to go. Or as an occasional starter against certain opposition.

I know only league 2 and 10 men for an hour but So much better without carroll and shelvey. Much quicker passing on the deck without those 2. Best game for murphy tonight.
Really hope carroll, shelvey and hendrick don’t all walk straight back in on Sunday.

Well this is where it becomes interesting Carroll had a decent game against West Ham but it was more in the defensive 3rd with their set pieces
Murphy, Longstaff, Almiron all actually contributed goals, assists and chances the things that really matter tonight so should be worthy of a shot in the team
Some of the combination play between them if they had Wilson up front to run onto that could actually be really good

Comment #18Brucie has just wrote himself in to the history books. Our biggest ever away win, against ten man fourth division opposition who had just been hammered 5-0 the game before however it’s history nonetheless 😀

Comment #19Clearly we wish all affected well and safe recovery.
But will the local economy be able to cope with this dire news.
Bakery chain Greggs has insisted supplies of its sausage rolls will be unaffected after a coronavirus outbreak among factory staff.
A “small number” of the 300 workers at the chain’s production hub north of Newcastle have tested positive for COVID-19 and bosses have moved to close down production.

If we go 442 with Carroll and Shelvey against a team 100% guaranteed playing a 343 and we get a similar spanking off then like we did against Brighton…..
Is it registering with him how much better we look as a team without the 2 of them slowing down the play? We will find out soon enough

Comment #30Well that was a pleasant surprise and like I said take Shelvey and Carroll out and play proper football.
Shame when we line up against spuds the chances are they will be in the 11. But if I’ll have huge respect for Bruce if he recognises this too and drops the pair of them.
Murphy oozing confidence and hopefully played his way into the match day squad. Could be a useful player this year with continued performances like that and on that note my MOTM

Comment #36Despite my disappointment with the lack of incisive passing infront of the penalty area, at least we did not have Shelvey attempting ‘hollywood’ passes from our own half and made an effort to play penetrating football. Long may that continue.

Comment #37Really pleased Murphy had a great game. Only listened to the match, what a change to actually win one of these cup matches with ease, and a good draw for next week. Well done Joelinton, hope it gives him a bit of confidence, although he should have scored that chance. Still worry about the Spurs match though.

Comment #40Very impressive performance by the lads tonight, i know it was only morecambe, but you can only beat whats before you, for me young murphy was man of the match, i agree with other comments tonight that Carrol or shelvey should not be in the starting line up, in my view a few of the players tonight should be in the starting 11 against Tottenham, and Murphy on tonights performane should start the next match.
