That was exactly what the doctor ordered. A resounding 7-0 win with six different Magpies getting on the scoresheet. A thoroughly dominating performance this evening. Now we’ll face Newport County next week for a chance to book a place in the quarterfinals.
Newcastle got off to a quick start and dispensed with the Shrimps in short order. While it is League Two competition who went down to 10 men in the first half, the quality of some of the goals was superb.
There were plenty of fantastic performances on display at the Globe Arena this evening. None more than Jacob Murphy who was absolutely terrific. He did himself no harm with a goal and an assist in a stunning performance.
Joelinton got the ball rolling with an early goal in the 5th minute. He should have added another soon after but hesitated on a Jacob Murphy cross the he probably thought was going in. However, he added a second in the 31st minute with an outstanding strike.
Miguel Almiron continues to rack up the assists. He got his third assist and his first goal of the season. The Paraguayan has been in top form so far this season.
We also kept another clean sheet, which is our third in our four matches. There could be some worry with Ciaran Clark being withdrawn at half time but hopefully it was only precautionary.
This was a wonderful night with excellent performances all around. It’s not often we get seven goals and a clean sheet to boot. There are plenty Man of the Match contenders for this one.

I just don’t think Bruce has it in him to drop Shelvey. But if he proves me wrong I’ll have huge respect for him. Carroll won’t last much longer being in the starting 11 and I hope we don’t see him line up against spuds.
With them out the team it brings the best out in our other players, the likes of Miggy, Lobby, and Hayden.
We’ve know this for years but we always play the lad and we come a one dimensional team. I’d much rather keep hold of the ball more, be patient on the build up and let our flair players do the talking.
