This is the team we think Steve Bruce will select for tonight’s cup tie at Morecambe. It has 7 changes from the Brighton defeat and 3 from the Blackburn match a week ago.
Bruce confirmed that he’ll be making plenty of changes during his press conference. Though he still maintains it’ll be a strong side. Hopefully, the lads will perform better than they have over the past two matches.
Newcastle have been handed quite the chance to advance to the quarterfinals. However, they must take care of business tonight against Morecambe. If we can do that we’ll face Newport County in the fourth round.
The injury list has grown to seven though both Fabian Schar and Paul Dummett returned to training this week though tonight is probably too soon for them. Thankfully Allan Saint-Maximin and Jamal Lewis are not seriously injured but will not play a part in this one.
Newcastle Injuries
Dwight Gayle – knee, Martin Dubravka – heel, Matty Longstaff – thigh, Allan Saint-Maximin – ankle, Jamal Lewis – eye, Paul Dummett – hamstring (late fitness test), Fabian Schar – shoulder (late fitness test)
Our poll for this match reveals that the optimism surrounding this season has taken a hit due to the dreadful Brighton display. A majority still expect Newcastle to advance but it’s not as resounding as you would expect based on the competition.

I’m not backing him at all, I can’t stand him being here. What I’m saying is Ashley is not going to sack him and if we pull off an unlikely win at Spurs people will be saying he deserves a chance to spend the Arabs money again.

Comment #2This is so amusing, we must get a win against morecambe, it’s morecambe.
I mean we shouldn’t really be talking about this, it should be a win end of.
But we have the rejected cabbage patch kid as our manager, he talking like this will be a hard game as they lost at the weekend 5-0 and will looking to bounce back, it’s fcuking Morecambe Steve, go get an ice cream, sit by the beach and work out what happens if you royalty screw this up.

If anyone spouts that nonsense they are deluded.
Let’s just hope that my feeling on all this is near the truth as Ashley won’t sit about and let it effect his chance of selling. Or there is your way of thinking that Ashley is protecting his investment but for his own selfish needs like always.
Time will tell and a part of me (tiny part) wants the team to struggle in the league to see if he has the cahones to do so

Despite Munters claims of how well Brucie done in the cup(s), which is an embarrassing clutching at straws claim I’ve ever seen given the circumstances in which we got to that QF. We just scraped a replay against league one opposition, which to be fair isn’t the first time that’s happened to many a top flight club, but to not be able to break down another league one club at home because you’ve got no idea how to transition from being able only to defend in to trying to attack as well is just downright embarrassing, when we did go at them in the replay we conceded twice and were desperately lucky not to be taken to pens. That 13th league position put a skim of polyfilla over a very large crack.

Hopefully by the end of that fixture list Bruce will be gone. Tough fixtures there and we could walk with nothing quite easily

Comment #13I see a 3rd of the fans are expecting us to lose tonight, v Morecombe ffs.
If that does`,nt give you a gauge about how the fans feel then nothing will.
On a brighter note, the Cougar passed its Mot after sorting the front light clusters out.
Got to say that i hav`nt seen another Cougar on the road for at least 2 years.
Mine could be worth a few quid in a few years time, would`nt sell it mind.

Good H2H last week – proves to me I am the Steve Bruce of Div 2. You had the guts to play Jiminez against Man City – I kept him on the bench in favor of Wilson. That was the difference in our scores. On my way to the bottom.

Comment #16I think the only chance of Bruce going, is if the buying consortium are in regular talks with Ashley and feel confident that a deal will happen soon down the line. If that’s the case then I can see them wanting Ashley to get rid of Bruce before they come in to ensure we stay in the league. A lot of ifs and buts though! I think if he manages to go up and down with results, he’ll stay until any form of takeover is done.

As I’ve stated many times before it takes a very talented manager to be able to play good football while keeping the goals out with a limited squad. Managers that can do that generally start out at a Sheff Utd /Huddersfield/Wigan/Hull then go on to eventually get a shot at managing the club they dream about. They don’t then bounce around dozens of mediocre PL and Champo clubs before settling at their level in the lower regions of the championship. He had no choice to go attacking after three successive home 0-0 draws, he was lucky enough to face a very low scoring Burnley and a ten man Soton when he did change it up. Anyway we’ll see what he does at Spurs on Sunday.

It started off as a parody account, however, the past few months it has been way too accurate about certain things relating to the takeover. To the point they started goading journalists. It has to be someone who is in the loop. I wouldn’t be surprised if it was Bishop or Barns

I agree about having no unity in the team, the players certainly don`t seem to be happy, it`s a really damning sign, one of which usually ends up in just one outcome, not good at all.
