At the moment 26-year-old Paraguayan International Manuel Almiron is not a starter for Newcastle.
That shows how our squad has improved quite a bit from last season, and Steve Bruce has again talked about the player from South America.
We always knew that Almiron was a top professional, and always upbeat, and he always has a smile on his face too.
The Geordie manager has again talked about Miggy’s professionalism, after he was dropped for the first time under Bruce.
Miggy came back into the team on Wednesday at Morecambe and looked good, even though it was against a League Two side, and he scored a nice goal.
Miggy Almiron scoring against Morecambe
This is what the manager said on a Zoom call to local journalists as reported in the Chronicle:
“There’s not a better pro than Almiron so when you don’t pick him, it’s disappointing for him, of course.”
“But it’s the first time that I’ve left him out of any starting line-up over the last week, and he reminded me of how good he was the other night again.”
“He has a great attitude towards it and doesn’t sulk.”
“He’s a great pro, a great lad and a great trainer. You’ve just got to keep encouraging them.”</em
While Miggy had a very good game on Wednesday night at Morecambe, there is increased competition for places this season.
We were happy to see Jacob Murphy show what a player he can be on Wednesday, with a Man of the Match performance, and he looked great: he will be part of the first team squad this season.
And Matt Ritchie is finding it hard to start these days too.
So the squad is definitely stronger, and we will need to see if we can play well tomorrow afternoon in North London and take something out of the game against Spurs.
It will not be easy, and not many fans think we can win this game.
Comments welcome.

Comment #1Well Brucey boy I encourage you to drop Shelvey and Carroll and let Miggy boy shine. We have a decent midfield and attacking options let’s utilise there strengths not just Shelveys.

Comment #2I think Amiron willl be our best player this season if potato head plays him. I assume hell play Fraser Instead as He’s got more experience. In terms of this week’s team both Murphy and Joelinton are confidence players so it would make sense to play them while their confidence is high. If theyre ever going to shine this is the week.
I’d go
Joelinton Almiron Murphy behind Wilson assuming Maximin isnt fit.
Bruce has already waved the white flag so selections are pretty much irrelevant.

Comment #5I think Ive gone Doherty as captain as I suspect park the bus as its not possible to attempt to play football against a team who finished about 7th last season, just as it isnt against a team who came 17th last season at our own ground.
