19 Minute VIDEO: Newport 1 Newcastle 1 – Magpies Scrape Through 5-4 On Penalties

Here’s the video of the Carabao Cup-tie tonight at Newport County, when Newcastle were asleep at the kickoff, and the home side scored before five minutes were up in the game.

And goalkeeper Gillespie could have done better.

We really have to be better prepared than this at the start of games – we have to be mentally ready for every game!

We lagged behind 1-0 nearly the entire game until finally we scored with 3 minutes to go.

It was a brilliant goal by Jonjo Shelvey and it went to penalties.

We had lost 10 of our previous 11 penalty shootouts, but credit to the lads, who held their nerve to win the penalty shootout 5-4, with Joelinton the only Newcastle player to miss his penalty in the Newcastle side.

Try this video full screen.

Newport 1 Newcastle 1 (penalties 4-5)

Murphy and Joelinton were probably the pick of the players tonight for Newcastle.

Well – nevertheless – we are through to the quarter-finals of the Caracao Cup – but is anything ever easy for Newcastle?

We need to start playing well very soon – maybe at home to Burnley on Sunday – that would be a good time to start.

My feelings exactly and he weakens us so much by being in the side regardless of his creative attributes.

Buy a powerhouse box to box midfielder and allow to patiently build up play through the midfield keeping possession rather than blindly wasting it.

We will never know what players are capable of what if we keep Shelvey in the side and don’t try a different dimension and route.

Today’s football is about keeping the ball and working hard. Work rate in today’s game is vital to any club or players being a success.

Murphy looking like he’s actually playing for the shirt. He could deffo have given Fraser lessons on how to play wing tonight?

The one good thing is that Journalists are starting to say what some of us have been saying since brucie took over and most of the supporters on social media platforms are sick of brucie and his non tactics.
The tide is definitely turning against him thank god .

Shelvey was that bad I am afraid. Sat so deep playing QB and target the sledge pulling Carroll. Longstaff and Fraser well off the pace, we really can’t keep getting away with it. the sledge pulling Carroll. Longstaff and Fraser well off the pace, we really can’t keep getting away with it.

I just want Ashley to blow me out the water with the removal of Bruce.

It would shock me to the core of he did such a move in the foreseeable future but he needs to if he is to protect his investment as Bruce and his coaching staff haven’t a clue.

Surprised Fraser didn’t show more. Didn’t want to take on his man and seemed to not want to use Lewis on the overlap. He has quality and there is a good player there. Just needs to get up to speed I think.

At the same time we showed very little cohesion and understanding between the players all over. Very individualistic going forward. Not sure what we work on in training.

If Ashley did give Bruce the heave-ho, who would he hire? Dyche looks like he’s done with Burnley? If he does leave he would be the safe survival option? Bot glamorous, gets lots of mileage from his players, and probs cheaper tha Poch and Pep.

Will say when we pushed on after Joe and Wilson joined the fray, the sense of urgency was also much better. Certainly helped that Newport were getting tired but we looked more like we did against West Ham in those final 15 minutes than we have in our other matches save Morecambe.

Rafa used to stand on the touchline barking out instructions to all the players, showing so much passion for the cause, contrast that with Bruce standing on the touchline with a big blank expression on his face, totally lost in space, the game passing him bye, not a clue or a thought process in his head, he might as well be feeding the ducks in the park.

Truth be told I think it’s the right decision to sell Barlaser. If he stayed we’d have likely had to extend his contract and potentially leaves us in the same position as with Aarons, in another years time.

Hopefully he’ll go and make a good career for himself. At 23 he really needs to be playing every week and he wouldn’t have gotten that here.

    Toonces,
On paper we brought on £60M worth of talent against a team four levels down. Teams normally struggle in these games because they’ve played a few youngsters and are in a very hostile atmosphere with the fans hyped up. There was a bloke eating a pot noodle watching from his window making up the crowd.

Has catchy got no shame at all or is he just so deluded he is blissfully unaware of how ignorant he is. How he has got the nerve to come on here accusing people of wanting us to lose after his pleas for us to be relegated under Pardew and his months of disappearance after a good run under Rafa only to appear after a defeat. He’s like something slimy you’d see in a rock pool.

What is happening at Newcastle at the moment, is whats been happening for 13 years, an owner who has never had any ambition or interest in Newcastle in football terms, we are just an after thought to Mike Ashley, lets not sugar coat it or gloss it up, no other club premier league as Manager, so while he is totally out of his depth as Manager, we really need Ashley to sell up pronto, its actually very frightening to think where we will be if Ashley is not gone in the very near future

AshLIE is a bit stubborn, he will not want to risk his £340 million but will not want to be proven wrong about hiring Bruce.

Then there is the takeover (hopefully soon…) and the problem will no longer be his.

But if for whatever reasons the takeover does not happen before January he has to decide if Bruce can keep us in the PL or bring in another manager (No bloody idea who) who will want more funds for their own players.

So we can see why AshLIE has paid for the best legal team available to get the takeover finalised.

    magicmac54,
How are you, I hope you are well. Yes, as we all know he has no interest in the club but enough to kybosh any transfer he doesn’t like the sound of or telling the manager he doesn’t need two top wingers. It’s soul destroying 🙁
