Carroll, Fraser, And Shelvey Get Starts At Newport County

This is the team Steve Bruce has picked for the Carabao Cup tie at Newport County. It has seven changes from Spurs and six from the win at Morecambe.

Allan Saint-Maximin is not involved once again which is a sensible move from Bruce as he should be ready for Burnley on Saturday. Ryan Fraser gets his second Newcastle start.

Joelinton is rested for this one after two straight starts as Andy Carroll gets another chance from the starting eleven. Surprisingly there’s no DeAndre Yedlin or Dan Barlaser so they could be close to moves.

It’s great to see Fabian Schar back for the bench and also the inclusion of youngster Elliot Anderson.

This is who Michael Flynn has selected for the hosts.

Newcastle have been afforded a comfortable path through this competition. That continues today at the Rodney Parade. The Magpies must take advantage of another generous draw and get by the Exiles.

Hopefully, this is the team that will do just that for a spot in the quarterfinals. A defeat would be a crippling blow at this stage and against this level of opponent. So the lads need to get an early lead and not give Newport any chance of a monumental upset.

Howay The Lads!

I get the feeling he’s resting Joelinton for the weekend. Hope I’m wrong as we should have much better options than him for the Burnley fixture.

    Just a fat dave.

I’m sorry, but I just don’t buy it,

Check out his time at Nappoli, you will find that when he took over, they had just finished 2nd, 2 years later and 105 million later, they were 5th, the coach before scored more and conceded less, Sarri came in after, first season got the back to 2nd, scoring more and scoring a lot more.

If you take his time in China, his defensive record is poor, that’s why they finished 2nd bottom.

Again, this is only my opinion, I believe he plays defensive football, because he doea not know how to coach attacking football.

I find it strange that, the you coach Ian at Wolves, we played better, then when he left, we went down hill.

    Catchy,
Ive said twice I don’t dispute Rafa is boring and negative. But Bruce is worse. And Bruce is worse at being boring. He was a bit crap at his prime, and is awful now. Rafa and Mourinho were good in their prime but theyre graduating into the next wave of dinosaurs because they can’t change their systems. But Rafa did very well at Valencia and Liverpool even though they were generally defensive. Bruce has just always been awful from whichever way you look at it. Bruce has been especially bad at transfers. Not many managers can compare.

9, he’s a young Central Midfielder 17/18 years old. I know very little about him, other than he’s a Whitley lad and his Grandad or his Uncle used to play for the Toon. What kind of style he plays with, I have no idea.

If we do end up in a comfortable lead (and I’m not counting my chickens here – it may or may not happen) it would be good to see a young lad getting his chance.

I enjoyed seeing Tom Allan coming on against Rochdale at SJP and setting up Joelinton for a goal. I hope this lad gets to make an impact too.

If Ashley promised you that if we lose tonight he’d sack Bruce and employ a manager who belongs in the modern game, would you want us to lose? Would you sacrifice one game to give us better odds of surviving and developing long term or at the very least playing better football?

catchy is trying his very best to try and prolong this now pointless debate, we are in the here and now and judging by Bruce’s “blah blah blah” comments he is realising he is up against it. Why is he reading the blogs or twitter or is he just making it up. He certainly isn’t getting grief from the stands.

I remember a good portion of fans saying Souness was what we needed because the players needed discipline. He was another dinosaur. He’d always been very bad, but he was on his way out.

I was hoping Joelinton would start on the wing chance for him to hopefully further build abit more confidence after his 2 goals and one of few decent looking outfield player against Spurs

Joel being tested could mean that he thinks st max won’t be available for the weekend either so he’s saving him for the left wing. I’m hoping that’s the case but instead think he might be saving him to do 442 again with wilson up top. Could still work but I’d rather a 4231. Especially when fraser gets in the mix. Joel can provide relief across the AM

    Fat dave

Bruce doesn’t set the bar high, so saying he is better dosnt take much.

I don’t like that style of football, so I will never rate any of them as good.

All coaches have a style of football they try and play, and if it was my choice, I would definitely search for a coach that played a more attack minded game.

Right now I’m impressed with the coach in charge of Bodø/glimt, Kjetil Knutsen, this team is flying, play great football.
