The Telegraph are reporting today that Liverpool and Manchester United have been forced to give up on their Project Big Picture (also known as Project Much More Money For Us) due to absolute minimum support from other Premier League clubs.
The other clubs said in today’s Premier League meeting that they would never agree to the very radical proposals put forward by the project, which was worked on in secret by the two clubs, along with EFL Chairman Rick Parry.
Here is a small portion of the Telegraph report:
“The Premier League is understood to be prepared to announce that it has reached unanimous agreement with all 20 members, including Liverpool and Manchester United that it will not consider the proposals.”
“Instead, it will look at formulating as a collective, a strategic plan for the future structures and financing of English football.”
“It will also announce that it will not endorse Project Big Picture and neither will its clubs or the FA.”
Ad here is the official Premier League statement, which has indeed been announced:
“Premier League Shareholders today unanimously agreed to work together as a 20-club collective on a strategic plan for the future structures and financing of English football.”
“Premier League clubs also agreed that Project Big Picture will not be endorsed by the Premier League, any of its clubs or The FA.”
So that seems to be the end of the power grab by the top six clubs, and led by the Reds and the Red Devils: thank goodness for that.
But still, they have shown their hand, and what they want they seem to want, is more and more money – that’s called avarice.
What do you think?
Comments welcome.

Comment #4Liverpool and Man Ure have in one fell swoop reduced their brand standing to that of dodgies with all the appeal of soggy lettuce.
The likes of the late Matt Busby, Sir Alex Ferguson and Kenny Dalglish must be squirming with embarrassment.
Bet their true fans are even less enamoured now with their American owners of their Footyball socccer clubs.
Time for a sponsors break methinks.

Comment #6Besides ManUre and the bin dippers, have any of the other “big six” at least tacitly supported Project Much More Money for Us? Damn, I love that wording Ed!!!!
But now they must get down to work and DO SOMETHING!!!
I heard that some wanted Parry dismissed. Maybe he should just resign. Seems he is a bit of a self-serving jerk and the mouthpiece for this greedy idea, but so be it. FSG and Glazers tried to give the impression it was HIS idea. I get the feeling he was just the fall guy to keep much of the heat off of them directly.

Comment #10What is the saying just desserts?
(idiomatic) A punishment or reward that is considered to be what the recipient deserved. It may appear that they’re getting ahead by CHEATING , but they’ll get their just deserts in the end.

I read an article by Liam Kennedy the other day that said they have went from short term to medium term focus and that goes to around end of January time.
The legal case is what everyone needs to focus on as what happens with that depends on the consortiums next move. The consortium are just waiting for the ok then we will have new owners. The Saudis have been approached by several premier league teams but PIF have rejected all outright as they want to wait for Newcastle United.

Emergency meeting of Premier League clubs rejects Liverpool plan -Report
25 SECONDS AGO NO COMMENTSSHARE
The 20 Premier League clubs have (remotely) attended an emergency meeting and rejected the ‘Project Big Picture’ plan.
Liverpool had secretly drawn up the documents with Manchester United’s backing, intending to grab total power amongst a handful of clubs and leave most Premier League clubs without voting rights.
Their laughable pretence of only being interested in helping EFL clubs, all too transparent unless you are truly naive.
Wednesday’s emergency meeting had only two things on the agenda, the Liverpool and Manchester attempted power grab, then formulating a plan to help the EFL clubs.
The Times report that their insider information is that the Project Big Picture was swiftly dealt with, the newspaper saying that at least 14 clubs were definitely against the shameful plan and ensured it was defeated.
The Times suggesting as well that SOME of the ‘’BIG SIX may have also voted against it.
The newspaper says that they understand the meeting was relatively ‘civilised’ and that much of the anger was reserved for Rick Parry, rather than the likes of Manchester United and Liverpool.
Having dismissed the Liverpool power grab, The Times saying that the meeting decided to commission a strategy review that would involve all 20 clubs and that the work would start on it promptly.
The Premier League clubs then moved on to how they could and should help the EFL clubs, with agreement to put together a rescue package, with the offer including an option for the bail-out funding only to go to League One and League Two clubs.
The report saying though that this could still be vetoed by the Championship clubs.
The Times adding that last week the EFL already rejected an offer of a grant of a figure less than £50 million as well as a £100 million loan, all with conditions attached.
In a way, rejecting the morally bankrupt Liverpool plan was the easy bit. As to exactly what the Premier League clubs come up with as an alternative, may prove a little more troublesome.

Messi had a release clause of £630M 🙂
You often only find out about them when a bid is made – like when Perez was sold for £30M.
Apparently Ashley didn’t know and kicked off about the low fee.

Comment #24I thought that Manure and Liverpool threatened to quit the PL if they didn’t get their way.
Perhaps it’s time for the 14 clubs who voted against to kick out these two traitors as they have shown the contempt in which they hold the other clubs.

Its the fans of Nufc that make the club attractive.

Comment #29OP – I think he may have already started to earn his money. Too many rumours about movement. I’m sure I read somewhere that the epl had conceded that the pif are seperate from the saudi state so if true it seems things might be moving
I also wouldnt be surprised if de Marco had something to do with the leak of the plan

Comment #30my way of thinking is when they pass the takeover there’s gonna be a lot of money coming into the PL , so whatever money the Saudi’s bring into the club the PL some of that money will/ should filter down to the smaller clubs imo …

Comment #34I’m confused by the statement “unanimous agreement” – does that not mean that Liverpool and Man Utd have also agreed to not go through with it? Did they sit there and go, “hang-on, sorry folks, we cocked-up, forget it, silly idea.”

Comment #35So is that it ? No punishment for the the 2 turncoats. If i was the owners of the 14 clubs that voted against the proposals i would be wanting their blood, bcos lets face it , the Bindippers and Manure have proved they don`t give a toss about anyone else but themselves.

Its all of the above.
I believe the reason the top 6 are so against a takeover is because Nufc would become a unstoppable juggernaut.
The fans and city with a top club challenging for honours, sounds like football heaven, Newcastle would be hard to beat.

Comment #38Professional football in England & Wales is a rare sport set-up with 92 clubs making up the four leagues – five if you include the Conference.
It has a huge impact not only from a sports perspective but also socially and economically and it is ingrained in our national psyche.
Many lower league clubs were struggling financially before Covid and God knows how stressed many owners and players must be about their futures.
It is criminal that with the massive amount of money circulating in football that there isn’t already more being done to help and protect the smaller clubs. It is also criminal that Rick Parry, Man U and Lpool were involved in trying to take advantage of the situation with their greed grabbing scheme,
If the powers that be don’t come up with practical and workable solutions to distribute money more evenly, and do it quick, I can see lower league clubs starting to fold with a collapsing domino effect.
The fallout and effects in the areas effected will be profound.
