Bruce Confirms Two Injury Scares After Manchester United Defeat

Steve Bruce has spoken after tonight’s poor 4-1 defeat against Manchester United. Bruce has confirmed that both Isaac Hayden and Karl Darlow have suffered injuries.

Hayden has suffered a hamstring injury which actually occurred in the first half. He came out to start the second but only lasted a couple of minutes. Here is what Bruce said about Isaac’s injury per Newcastle’s Twitter page:

“Unfortunately he nicked a hamstring in the first half, just before half-time. We thought he was going to be OK for the second but obviously, he wasn’t.”

As is the case with performances, it’s one step forward and two steps back with injuries. Just when it looked like we had turned a corner, it’s another injury to a key player. But the bigger worry could be with Karl Darlow.

Darlow was brave and put in a tremendous performance once again. However, he suffered what looked like a groin injury after a collision with Marcus Rashford. Karl stayed in the game but now faces a scan to see the extent of his injury.

This is the update Bruce provided for our in-form keeper:

“He took a hell of a blow. We hope that he’s not too bad. Until we see the scans we won’t know how it is but he’s very sore.”

It could be a serious problem if Darlow faces any time on the sidelines with Martin Dubravka out until December. That would hand first-team duties to Mark Gillespie and young Dan Langley would move into the matchday squad as the back-up.

I expected more of Hendricks, he has a lot of prem experience and should have hit the ground running. He looks totally like a rabbit in headlights and has barely contributed at all in any game other than about 30 mins in the west ham game.
He played on the right of a midfield for Burnley a lot so it’s not as if it’s a position he doesn’t know. I literally have no idea why we bought him, even though he was on a ‘free’ we paid him a huge signing on fee and have him a big wage increase … depressing

“It is a work in progress for us. We have tried to change and with that it will take time. The defeat looks worse than it really was.”

Seemed a random tactical set up yesterday and it’s almost like Bruce is trying to show he can actually do tactics but then goes on to prove he has no idea.
I mean just how long is this work in progress going to last… it’s been 16 months already!!!

Joelinton’s body language was not the same when he is in the middle or left, seems bit annoyed being played there. He switched with ASM in the 2nd half but reverted back shortly. Wonder if the players are taking matters into their own hands but Bruce called them out. Joe was not fantastic like ASM, but was gaining momentum till Bruce play him on the right. But he should have put in more effort instead of sulking there.

Style of play and tactics is more of an issue than formation at the moment. You can play 1-8-1 but with 9 players sitting deep is the same as 5-4-1. You can see Shelvey is happier in a more attacking role. Then you have case of Hendrick ahead of Almiron and Fraser.

I’m very worried about Bruce brand of he so called “attacking football”. Bruce have to go, problem is who is seeing this problem at the management level? Who willing to come in and manage. Its pretty shit at the moment.

Good post lascelles sea shells. I’ve given Bruce time and support and he pretty much matched benitez last season. But the signs are not good and I have no idea what he was doing with Hendrick, apart from playing with a huge amount of fear in wanting two defensive midfielders on. How long could the legal side take?

Not sure why people are so surprised most of us knew what Bruce would bring but he was cheap and fat lad knew he would walk out on Sheff. Wed as long as Ashley is here this is as good as it gets, injuries rising tactics falling and our manager continually praising the opposition, keeping us firmly in our place

Bruce’ll be shocked to hear you’re beginning to have doubts about him – especially after saying he was as good as his predecessor, last season.

The best form of defence is attack or words to that effect since George Washington reputably said it.

If a team is setup to defend it invites the opposition to attack resulting nearly always in a defeat or a fortunate draw but rarely a victory.

We saw this with Benetez and now Bruce.

If Darlow remains fit he will follow Dubravka as player of the season and the league’s number one keeper for saves. This doesn’t necessarily mean they are good keepers more that the men in front of them are not very good at preventing opposing teams having shots on target with the almost inevitable result.

Bruce should play 4-3-3 with Wilson, ASM and Fraser up front supported by a midfield of Hayden, Shelvey and Miggy and attack teams.

Lesh, yes he did as well as his predecessor last season. I had never said he was as good a manager overall. However we were probably aiming too low as his predecessor was in decline, as he has brought Dalian backwards to a relegation play off. Last night was desperately poor.

Did anyone not really see this coming. Once the luck runs out, Bruce has absolutely nothing. He’s so lucky there’s no takeover or crowds in grounds otherwise or it would be those bruce out banners all over again as previously seen at S’land and Villa.

Yesterday was a real chance to have a go at an out of form, injury ravaged team and playing at home. I hoped against hope Bruce would line ASM up against Shaw and drop Hendrick. Not a bit of it. It’s not just the predictability, stubbornness and lack of imagination it’s increasingly more the total idiocy and ineptitude of the man.

If Bruce continues to leave Almiron out he will lose my support.

He added goals to his high energy game last season, has scored in the cup this season and sees a pass every bit as good as Shelvey does, especially in the last third.

How Jo gets a game ahead of Al is baffling – unless it’s because he cost half what Jo did. Which unfortunately is what I suspect.

Almiron should have a free role in the 10 position and I’d push ASM up higher to support Wilson.

We also need to get Fraser starting which means Hendrick loses out, Fraser plays as a wing back which he is well capable of doing.

Yesterday just showed what a proper ‘give and go’ class CM brings to a team…

And I’m talking about Mata not Fernandes.

    Mata was absolute class.

    Munter keys

we’re talking about this hapless manager on his own merits , not one who left 18 months ago. You may as well compare pardew who fluked one good season in a 20 year career or Mclaren, carver et al. Tell you what I wouldn’t mind a manager in decline who could get us a top 10 finish at the first time of asking.

statiscally we all know he wasn’t as good as his predecessor in any case, unless you think 3 times the goals conceded in a third of the time is as good.

    Rotonda heights,

I agree that Bruce should have exploited the nervousness of ManU and their weakness in defence.

Bruce should let other teams worry about us and not the other way around.

Bruce “”We will go away really, really disappointed because we were 10 minutes away and it could have gone either way when it gets that late.””

The talk of being 1-1 and of naiveity just shows that Bruce thought that there was no problem with the way we played for 80 minutes. A lucky goal and pretty hapless opposition flew straight over his head.

Bruce is as good as gone already.

It’s obvious that the club are on board with him taking the fall now. Everyone can see that we’re going to struggle now. In all honesty, Charnley is useless too and Ashley doesn’t have a clue, so it’s highly likely Bruce’s replacement will be equally inept, but I really don’t even care any more.

Just sick of the negative “tactics” and endless excuses.

    We need him gone now.

    Bill’s son,
Shelvey is more defensive than Almiron. Hendrick is more defensive than Almiron. That’s what is going on in Bruce’s mind. I knew at the start of the season we’d be seeing Hendrick in the team. Bruce’s is the type that if he can find a centre back who can fill in at right back he’ll go for that, or if he can find a defensive midfielder who can play on the wing he’ll go for that. To be honest it’s probably the way to go if you’re going to park the bus. Could you imagine parking the bus with ASM, Almiron, Fraser in the same team? The trouble is not many fans are happy with just surviving while playing the worst football in the league. We have some great players, much better than most our other managers have had. But Almiron like Ben Arfa isn’t as useful as Gouffran or Hendrick for sh*te football.

I honestly thought the team were good enough to turn them over.
I even had a Mars bar on it.
But stupid me forgot we had agent bruce, joelinton, and hendrick’s.

Shirley we should have played Almiron and Fraser from the start.

Why is he extracting the urine out of Almiron 88th minute for goodness sake.
We had Darlow injured, and he needed to go off.
bruce needs to go to specsavers

    1. Joelinton made his name on the left so why play him right wing?
    2. ASM getting crowded out on left and Bissaka is fast so why not play ASM on right?
    3. Why allow ASM to come too deep where he can get high pressed and lose ball why not instruct him to stay on half way line only. which will keep opposition team in their half.
    4. Jamal Lewis goes inside too close to centre half and leaves too much space on opponent right wing.
    5. WE ARE THE ONLY DEFENSIVE TEAM THAT I HAVE EVER SEEN WHO HAVE ALL MEN BEHIND BALL BUT WHO DONT PRESS OR TACKLE OR
MARK PLAYERS THEY JUST GO BACK OR STAND THERE. OPPOSITION JUST PASS THEIR WAY WITH EASE AND MOVE EFFORTLESSLY AROUND PITCH LOOKING PRIME BARCELONA … I MEAN EVERY TEAM WE PLAY EVEN LEAGUE 2 TEAM.
    6. Has Bruce been sacked yet?

The keeper getting injured did more for our game play than his “tactics”
We started playing it out from the back

Why we wernt doing it to start with, or why he didnt sub an obviously injured keeper ill never know
