The score should never have been 4-1 after Newcastle were all even at 1-1 after 85 minutes of play against Manchester United yesterday.
But the Red Devils went on to score three goals, with one of them past the five minutes allotted for added time.
Newcastle should never lose their concentration like they did at the end of the game yesterday.
And until Fernandes put Manchester United ahead for the first time on 86 minutes, a 2-1 result would have been decent.
And we could have said we were unlucky, always knowing that goalkeeper Karl Darlow was again Newcastle’s best player with some terrific saves, including a brilliant save from a penalty by Bruno Fernandes.
But some naivety on Newcastle’s part allowed the visitors to score three goals in the space of 10 minutes at the end of the game.
🙁
Not good for our goal difference.
But the truth was after we went head with an own goal after two minutes we were second best for the rest of the game.
And Alan Shearer as usual pulled no punches, and we were just not good enough yesterday, against a very expensive side who have been struggling this season.
Karl Darlow – saves brilliantly from Bruno Fernandez penalty
Great performance from the Newcastle goalkeeper yesterday
This is what Shearer said BBC Match of the Day last night:
“First of all, with Newcastle, I was really disappointed. It was a poor performance.”
“I thought the set-up to soak up the pressure, they got the goal and then just went back and sat back.”
“They couldn’t get anywhere near them on the ball, (they) kept knocking it long, the ball kept coming back into them and I thought they were really, really poor.”
“From a Manchester United point of view, I think Ole Gunnar Solskjaer deserves credit for changing the team.”
“That team had to be changed after the last performance that they had. They did that, and they played very well and they absolutely battered Newcastle I thought.”
“They dominated possession. Malta and Fernandes were so clever, I thought, because they just went and stood in those little pockets in the holes in front of Newcastle’s back four and Newcastle couldn’t handle that.”
“They were just too good on the ball, they showed a lot of creativity, everything Newcastle didn’t have.”
“(It was) a brilliant ball in for Harry Maguire from Malta for Maguire to get his goal.”
“But those two on the ball, if you give them the amount of time that Newcastle gave them, then they are going to punish you and cause you problems all evening as they did.”
“The one player that deserves credit in Newcastle’s team I thought was Darlow because he kept the score down,”
“But look at those two [Mata and Fernandes] kept on getting and running, never gave up.”
We were really disappointed at both the performance and the result yesterday and worryingly star goalkeeper Karl Darlow seems to have a groin injury.
Let’s hope he’s OK for the winnable game at Wolves next Sunday (4:30 pm kickoff).
If he’s not fit to play then it will be the debut of Newcastle=born third string goalkeeper Mark Gillespie.

Last night you spent the whole match blogging how because of your family you couldn’t watch the match your firestick wasn’t working, the picture froze and asking for links to streams.
Today you come on critiquing players and a match you hardly saw
Something you’ve done for years, dont watch the match then critique it like you have a clue
Yes the blog is quiet but still no one misses your shite, funny that.
Munster no one cares, not catchy jib or bills, go cry yourself to sleep.

FYI, I take no pleasure in seeing our former manager who brought so much hope to a joyless 13 years have such a hard time in his new job. Despite your claims I know that you, as is catchy taking great pleasure of being able to inform the blog of his struggles.

Comment #6Jail, look at last seasons table compared to the season before. So yes, the two outcomes were broadly similar. That’s not to say that Bruce is at rafa’s level, but then, as you know, I never claimed that. Meanwhile I hear that “he who cudnt be criticised” has lost a relegation playoff first leg. I suggest your hissing against rafa dissenters was at best, misguided and short sighted. At worst, stupid. Thankfully the whole dialogue changed as people opened their eyes and critiqued more accurately. Exactly what was needed a couple of years ago, just took longer than expected. New owners and a more stylish approach from a more progressive manager than either B or B, please.

Comment #9Jail I actually wasn’t even aware until some guy mentioned the playoffs. So you, Hibbitt, rotunda, soldier boy and others were just talking horlicks in trying to prevent a more accurate critique.
I’m so glad I persisted, it’s been good seeing things change in the analysis on here.

Comment #12Soldier boy I suffered it on the laptop, thankfully with some buffering issues. But enough to see a cowardly performance. Shades of Rafa v City part one. Oh, my bad, that wasn’t allowed to be criticised either. Out for a walk lads, enjoy your munster anger, muppets.

The reason i dislike you and your pals is your blatant disrespect and disregard of any opinion that doesn’t align to your own.
You can huuf and puff all you like but your miseries neggars etc says more about you than anyone.
Fancy blaming your wife for getting rid of a puppy, the measure of a man is admiting his mistakes and putting them right.

GOAL – Tottenham 3-3 West Ham
Manuel Lanzini
WOW!
How? How have Tottenham drawn this? They looked in control for so long but West Ham complete a stunning late comeback and it is an absolute beauty from Manuel Lanzini.
The substitute pounces on a loose ball outside the box and thunders a brilliant shot that bounces off the underside of the bar and into the back of the net.
Incredible.”

I understand the ten games thing to a point.
Theres no improvement anywhere or hope of any.
Bringing Schar on for a injured Hayden showed his weakness and inability to adapt.
His treatment of Almiron whilst playing Hendricks is baffling.
He’s had over 50 games, how often shall we restart the clock?
